Samsung E1200T - Hero

Post by PeteC »

Christmas come and gone and the daughter's favourite was not the expensive stuff relatives sent from abroad that I had fits with concerning Customs duty....but the below 600 Baht device.  Her first phone for emergency use in case she becomes separated from us while we're out. The wife chose this one as advertised as almost indestructible when dropped or stepped on....we'll see. I've never had a Samsung before and this cheap little device has an SOS feature where she can push the off button 4 times in succession and it calls preset numbers automatically. With a password protect so a thief can't disable the feature, it gives you the number of any new SIM card someone tries to insert so you can trace your lost/stolen phone. Nifty features I've never seen before on more expensive smart phones, but I've really never looked. Anyway, a great first phone for preteens. Pete

I don't think a thief is going to be too concerned with a phone that retails for under 600 baht.

Samsung calls it "Mobile Tracker 2.0". It's almost the same as the SOS as you designate people in your phone contact list to be called/SMS. There also appears to be something called "access remote phone" within the same system where you can delete data or forward calls from the lost phone. Pete

So it sends an SMS with the to a designated number, with the telephone number of the new SIM card that's been inserted?

Have you tried it out? It's just I had a phone that supposedly had this feature a while back, and it didn't actually work. As alleykat says, its no biggie being a 600bt phone, but interesting none the less.

Good that it has a speed SOS feature.

Think the location is based on cell tower triangulation as that particular model does not have gps capability. Not sure if it is supported in Thailand.

For info, Truemove is pushing their own branded smartphone going at 990 baht. Picked up the golive s1 for the other half as at 2990 baht and full internet capability it is a bargain.

Not set it up or tried out the "Tracker" feature yet, only the SOS. Will revert......

I'm sure Samsung put this in their high end phones also. Who has a Galaxy, BaaBaa, BB? Pete
