The Nation newspaper to go subscription

Post by PeteC »

A rude surprise this morning when I opened up The Nation website. I was greeted by a message saying, "You have 3 out of 45 free articles remaining this month..." If I want full service I have to register and pay something like $6.99 per month. I now say goodby to The Nation newspaper, and unfortunately no more political cartoons or stories posted unless someone with a subscription wants to post them.

I await reading that the Bangkok Post on-line readership has gone up ten fold, while The Nation readership has gone into the sewer. Keeping my fingers crossed though that the BKP won't follow suit. Pete

Its the new model, long gone are the days when you can whack up a few banner ads to pay for your content. A lot of mainstreams have gone subscription now to cover the loss of ad revenue and loss of print sales to an increasing tablet toting web audience.

BK Post is bound to follow.

I'm not against the idea of paying for quality news but you're better off going to someone like PressDisplay.com where you can read online the full print edition of over a 1,000 newspapers from around the world for $25 a month.

Yes, that was exactly my thoughts this morning. It's better than paying bit by bit for separate publications. Pete
