Free Hua Hin Concerts 9 to 17 Feb 2013

Post by Big Boy »

Walking back to the car after the Happy For Kids event at 19 Rai yesterday evening, I spotted this poster (apologies for quality, but it was dark, and I had to use the camera on my phone):

My daughter has interpreted it for me, and it says something like:

Wat Samopong
Bo Fai
9 to 17 Feb 13

9.2.13 - Ooiy Fire & Bai Foon
10.2.13 - Daeng Jittatong
11.2.13 - Nui Suweena *
12.2.13 - Gintella Poonlab *
13.2.13 - Big One Gantonlab
14.2.13 - Singing Competition
15.2.13 - Sky Pad
16.2.13 - Singing Competition Final
17.2.13 - Chem Chem Lam

Support acts are always first class.

The above are entirely my interpretaions of what has been written, and I'm happy to be corrected.

I've been told that we will be going to the 2 shows marked with an asterisk.

We've been to many such concerts at 19 Rai, and the quality is usually excellent. We've also watched singing competitions at 19 Rai, and the quality from 5 year olds to singers in their 60's has been very high.

It doesn't cost anything, and it is usually a good night out. I'm not sure about this venue as it is at a temple, but certainly at 19 Rai they have a small market, a kiddies fun fair, plenty of food stalls, and plenty of beer available - all at Thai prices.

There are big grounds at this Temple if they hold it inside. The last time I saw a concert there the actual stage was on vacant grounds about opposite the Temple gates. Only problem was the road was blocked with the usual "me first" parking crowd.

Seriously, rather than struggle to find it, is there any chance of somebody putting directions to the temple, or showground, whatever it is please? I know the area roughly, but can't say that I've spotted a temple there (although I probably wasn't looking).

C3 on this map: http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-area-map.htm
near where it says "Catfish". Along the Klong road, turn left into Soi 6 over the bridge, and then immediately turn right: about 300 metres to the Temple on the left.

That would be Wat Bo Fai. It has a large pond full of fish of various types. When we last went a couple of years ago you could buy fish pellets to feed to the fish.

Wat Smor Phrong is at B5 on the map - in the Smor Phrong area. Enter from the canal road into Soi Chonlapratan 26 (Soi Smor Phrong). Over the khlong bridge, turn immediate right (7/11), follow the road right to the end.

The temple is holding religious ceremonies at the same time (bit tong fang luk nimit).

Wat Samopong
Bo Fai
9 to 17 Feb 13

Lets hope it's Bo Fai temple but Wat Samorpong is: on the canal road, going out of town, turn left at the tippawan bridge (big water tower) and just go straight takes you to the temple.

Just back from the recce - excellent directions JG :thumb:

Several huge areas to have a concert, but the road in and out is a bit small. Seems to be plenty of car parking space as well.

We also took time out to feed the fish. Not only catfish, there were carp and terrapins as well :D

We went to Wat Samopong first to check it out (and to make sure we could find it). This is definitely where the concerts are being held.

Afterwards, I took a drive down to Wat Bo Fai to feed the fish. Those directions were spot on as well.
