Tung Wua Laen Beach, Chumphon

Post by buksida »

Just spent a couple of days at Tung Wua Laen beach, about 15km north of Chumphon. It had been a few years since I'd been there and was pleasantly surprised to find there are now a few more restaurants, cafes and watering holes there along with some nice places to stay. We opted for the Nana Beach Resort, right on the beach with a pool for only 1200 per night during peak season - bargain. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/chum ... id=1586997

There were a few tourists there, mainly Russians, but it was nowhere near as busy as Hua Hin and makes for a nice short break. The added bonus is crystal clear water!

Also spent a few days there just before New Year

A truly pleasant place, with loads of space for everyone to simply relax and be alone on the beach.

We stayed in Armonia, which was about a km from the beach

Always sad to see such beautiful places dessimated by litter, and this place was no different. Any restaurant there, I'm sure, could double there turnover, simply by tidying 'their stretch' of beach each morning, but, this is a problem all over Thailand, and something that you become accustomed to seeing.

Still a wonderful place, and I'm sure I will return there again in the future

Yes, the piles of plastic and polystyrene were the only tarnishes on an otherwise perfect beach, its even worse up the coast:

80% of this crap comes from the fishing boats. :guns:

Just spent another weekend down there so will use this thread to post recommendations for TWL beach ...

Bars
Funky Bar - The expat hangout managed by a friendly Thai/English couple, also does good food.
K-Had Bar - A late night place popular with the locals, good atmosphere.
Jasmines - Biker bar with pool table and rock music.

Restaurants
Pirates Terrace - A great place for breakfast with a wide selection of western food on the menu.

Accommodation
Nana Beach Resort - 3 star accommodation from 1200 baht with a nice big pool.
K-Had Bungalows - A/C bungalows from 600 baht.

Diving/Snorkeling
Dive Chumphon - Werner at the Cabana knows the local islands backwards. Not the cheapest but they have 3 boats and run daily trips.

Feel free to add your own recommendations for Tung Wua Laen beach, I'll update this after further research.
