Thought I'd bump this one as the free concerts started yesterday. We're not going until tomorrow. In the meantime, has anybody got any photos from the event so far?

We went to the Nui Suweena concert at Wat Samorpong last night. A slideshow (not very good as they are nightshots, and my cameras are point and click beasties) can viewed here http://www.flickr.com/photos/8517813@N0 ... 5538/show/

On the way to the temple, we passed another temple on our left, which was brilliantly lit (Thai Style) on a hill. This was only an appetiser for what was to come. It seems that temples use this fortnight to raise funds. en-route to Isaan last week, I noticed a string of similar posters to the one I posted for Wat Samorpong all the way.

When we got to the temple, the static light show was fantastic - like the proverbial fairy wonderland. I don't think I've ever seen such lights anywhere - here's a panoramic photo taken with my phone (again apologies for the quality). It should give you a rough idea of the spectacle we saw before us, although the photo does not do the colours justice.

Temple activities were what you would expect - different ways of collecting money. However, the monks were very loud, and had sound systems that would have put a touring rock band to shame.

Around the fairy wonderland, there were the usual market stalls, food stalls, a mobile cinema and a fun fair.

There were 2 stages. One seemed to be staging a classical Thai Play. The main stage looked like any other open air concert I'd been to, but there were no seats  . It was blanket on the ground stuff. Fortunately, I just happened to have a tarpaulin in the car. Even so, I don't do 'blanket on the ground', so I stood and watched the show for about 40 minutes, then retired to the car to surf the net on my phone until everybody else came back.

From what I saw, it was a good show. The rest of the family thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've got to do it all again tonight when Gintella Poonlab is playing.

 Just heard there were a couple of fatal shootings there after we'd left on Monday night

We went again last night to watch Gintella Poonlab. Good show, same 'blanket on the ground' set up though. Being wiser this time, I parked the car so that I could watch from the cab rather than standing in the auditorium.

There were loads of people dancing in front of the stage. Again I found out this morning that Gintella's concerts have a similar reputation to Carabou (spelling?), and trouble was likely. We didn't see any trouble, but we didn't see anything the previous night. Hopefully, Mrs BB doesn't want to go to any more of these concerts. Just 3 (low quality) photos from last night http://www.flickr.com/photos/8517813@N0 ... 7947/show/ .
