The motor on mine burned out recently and I had to have it replaced. The same guys do repairs if it is possible to fix. They do good work and I think they charge everyone equally. I think my wife has the contact information in her phone. She is talking on it right now so I'll post it when she gets finishes her call... probably sometime this afternoon or evening! :banghead:
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

HHF, how did it work out with yours. Did you use the battery backup type?

Just tell her the radiation from cell phones issue is back in the news again and hot in more ways than one. They're now saying keep it 25mm away from your head. How you can hear I have no idea. Since it's microwave, basically you're cooking your brain slowly. That may be enough of a scare to keep these girls away from long calls.  Pete

Yes, I now have the battery backup type of gate opener, which has two advantages... not only will your gate still open during short power outages, but if the motor shorts out again it only puts 12v through the gate and will not fry me like the last time!

And yes, I'm living dangerously... hope the missus doesn't read this (or any of her friends)... or I'll be in the dog house.... again!

Hi,

I have just gotten an electric gate opener installed (sliding type). This is a unit made in Korea or China, hard to tell since the documentation which came with the unit were sparse to put it gently. No maintenance instructions. What I'm wondering is if there is any need to lubricate the cog wheel and the cogged bar which is bolted on to the gate? The guy who installed it didn't speech much english so I couldn't get much info from him.

If I grease the cogged wheel and bar this could be a problem with regards to dust, sand and other shit getting stuck in the grease, so for me it makes some sence not to lubricate.

On the side to previous posts here, my gate opener does not have any battery. I use a key to disengage the gear if we have power outage, and the gate can be slided manually.

No, it is not necessary to lubricate the gear rack and pinion. It does not hurt to spray some WD 40, or equal, on the motor housing and around where the pinion shaft protrudes. It is mote important to make sure that the wheels on the gate itself are kept free. They should be fitted with sealed bearings, but it helps to protect them with WD 40 or some light oil.
