I took a compact fluroescent lamp back to Tesco last week. Refunded without a squabble. In fact, I wanted to change it as it did not work, but Miss Piggy behind the desk did not know what "chai mai dai" meant, and just gave me back the 120 Baht.

I've either got a fat neck or a thin waist; all my shorts don't go round my neck but they do fit me on the waist. Maybe it would just better to go to the changing rooms and try them on instead of messing about with a 'shorts beard'.

Alternatively, just ask your wife to do your shopping for you. I can't remember when last I bought my own clothes, and I don't know how she does it, but Mrs Takiap always gets it right as far as sizes are concerned. Maybe it's that built in shopping instinct that women have.

Been there, done that, and unfortunately it doesn't work in our household. She was duped into believing Thai sizes as labeled fit our foreign frames. I was told long ago after she had to make many return trips..."you go shopping for yourself....." Must remember, we're an hour drive from decent shops so getting it wrong is a big hassle. What I tend to do now is take many showers per day to cut down on laundry, thus making the clothes I have last longer! Pete
