I normally don't bite but this must be one of the most rediculous arguments I have ever seen, even from you.

I highly doubt anybody campaigning for gun control is suggesting that there should be no armed security forces. There's a big difference between allowing people in positions of responsibility to be armed, and allowing everybody in the world to have a dangerous weapon.

To counter your argument, in a non-controlled environment, the attckers could have easily gone and purchased a gun each. Then the armed security guard would have stood no chance.

'rediculous'? Poor spelling aside, the 'even from you' is provocative and unnecessary.

The gun control comment was made to provoke a reaction and you certainly did bite. The only surprise is why it took so long for anyone to comment. 'Gun control' can range from only the police being armed to the whole population. You didn't clarify what was meant before you jumped in.

If you think about it, in the UK, schools do not have armed guards because there is little threat of death or serious injury, from external sources. Maybe the Janitor carries a night stick. No need for armed security.

In Thailand, schools do have armed guards in some areas of the South but I wasn't aware it was normal practice elsewhere. Only in the south. However, we can see the risk of death and serious injury is clearly higher when gangs are running around with machetes. Thailand has a higher gun death rate than the U.S. It isn't difficult to obtain a weapon here. So, yes. I would expect this gang to return with guns. However, the risk to any one of them is still great and they may still be deterred.

If I were to make an argument, I would be in favour of wider gun ownership, dependent on risk. If society is calm, then no need for anyone to be armed. If the risk of violence is great, then I would like to be armed, myself, since I know security services 99 times out of 100 arrive AFTER a crime has been committed.

If the State cannot protect you, then every man has the right to protect himself and his family. In this instance the girls were lucky someone was there. I'm curious as to why these thugs were tasked with attacking the school?

The first sentence (of para 2) probably explains the second. Most of your comments seem to be intended to provoke a reaction these days, rather than to make an intelligent point. 'The only surprise' is that a few people still oblige by responding.

Sorry provocative comment that did not add anything positive to the thread

They have always been written to provoke.

The QC Inspector strikes again. Do you walk around with a clipboard?

I doubt he sees it the same way.

No one has questioned why this attack took place, or why the guard / whoever was armed? I understand one shot guy died and his mama is claiming blood money. This appears to be a dispute caused by rivalry between the owners of two separate schools or something of that ilk and the owner of the school subject to the attack in the video was also suffering the consequences of a previous attack on him, hence the protection.

That to me, is a far bigger and truly scary story.

All the above is from memory, so might be out in my 'reporting'.

If you run the Youtube page through translate, you get a rough idea of what's going on. Seems the school is in Buriram and some of the youths have been arrested and charged.

When you outlaw guns only the outlaws (ie read people in authority too) will have guns!
And if not guns there are plenty of other ways of dealing with issues. They could have just used the car as a battering ram if they wanted too!
