BB - don't hold your breath. I PMed Dr M on Monday and pointed it out on a thread, but it hasn't been opened yet. Hope he doesn't work in A&E!

Moderator I answered one of these Personal Messages about a year ago, but my memory was that I was informed by Email that one was waiting. I suspect that these messages are going to my hospital Email which is now defunct as i am not working there anymore.

Hi, I'm sure here is many people who sometimes suffers of insomnia. So do I...
In my homecountry I have got "fall a sleep" medicine.
Are those available here? (with prescription from a doctor)
In a pharmacy they just offer every kind of antidepressant drug or "atarax".
No need many times but good to have if needed :)

I have been asked a question about High Blood Pressure. The person asking is leading an admirable life--not overweight, non-smoker, moderate drinker, careful about diet and quite active. In spite of all this his BP is now higher than it should be.

All I can say is that yes it happens High BP is not always because of an indulgent life style although that does exaggerate the problem. Exercise we know is helpful, not necessarily high power gym work, but walking 20-30 mins a day can be helpful.
There is a problem is assessing BP in that if the patient is nervous or worried it will be higher (white coat Syndrome) The lower of the two figures is less affected by this.

If this figure is 100 or more consistently, try life style changes, if it persists--- see an Internal Medicine Dr.

Dr Michael,
My Thai lady friend had a motorbike accident approximately 3 weeks ago, resulting in several deep cuts to her left leg (she said she was forced off her bike by a drunk farang motorbike rider weaving all over the road. He didn't stop!). The Police took her to HH Hospital and the hospital patched her up - 11 stitches. She was told to go to a clinic every day to have the wounds cleaned and a new dessing applied. This she did and still does. The stitches came out after a week. It's now 2 weeks since that and the deepest wounds still look angry, while the lesser cuts seem to have healed OK. She has had some drugs (I don't know which one or ones) prescribed for her. She complains about her skin itching, and not just around the wound area. The deepest wound created a quite deep hole in her skin and while that has "skinned over" there appears to be either liquid or a very soft gel like substance still in the hole. The "skin" is an opaque white colour. My question is, do you think there is any cause for concern at this stage or is her healing process OK and we should both have patience? I am worried in case the wound is infected. What would you recommend? Have patience or get a different doctor to look at it? If the latter, what sort of and where would he/she be found?
Thank you in advance for your advice!

easyas, obviously I'm no medical expert, but I've found (and am still finding) Dr Sophon at Petcharat Hospital to be excellent for this kind of wound. I actually ended up with Dr Sophon because of mis-diagnosis at Bangkok Hospital. A quick consultation is not expensive, and could save a lot of grief.

Thanks for that BB! What is Dr Sophon's specialty? How best to contact him/her?

He is part of the internal medicine team (Main Man, I think). The thing which IMHO sets Petcharat aside from Hua Hin hospitals is that they check things thoroughly, rather than look and guess. They use their labs extensively to confirm/dismiss their thoughts.

Just turn up (8:30 til 4) Monday to Thursday (he also works some Fridays and Saturdays), and tell reception that you want to see him. By the time they've checked blood pressure etc, he'll be there. Having said the above, check out their website, and phone them first - it's a long way to go if he's having a day off. http://www.petcharat-hospital.com/index-eng.php .

He worked for a long time in the USA, and his English is excellent - a true gentleman.
