bank and english

Post by joelle »

hello,
does anybody know a reliable bank in cha-am or huahin where they speak very good english, clear and understandable, because after talking with a person at my bank for 2 hours about transfers I am still back to square one and would end having to pay quite a lot of money, very frustrating when you think they understood it all and finally they did not understand a thing about what you really want :banghead:
would be grateful for some advice and hear some of your experiences

Sounds like quite a normal experience to me. May have best luck to go to the main branches of K-Bank or Bangkok Bank downtown as I am sure their english speakers could be better.

My experience throughout Thailand is that you have to keep asking the question over and over and keep pressing until someone finally calls their main branch in BKK and finds out that what you want to do can really be done. Problem is that that person has never done it and doesn't want to do anything new as it might be work for them. I spent over 45 minutes in the BKK branch in Don Sak trying to get the teller to give me some specific information about two trial deposits sent from U.S. (to set up ACH transfer from BKK Bank N.Y.). In Hua Hin this took me about 5-10 minutes total to get and the teller came back with the information on a print out. Down here neither the teller or anyone else in the bank has any clue how to get this same information I was asking for as I kept telling them that the information was in their computer and all they had to do is look for it. Went round and round until finally teller called BKK several times and talked to different people and finally handed me the phone and someone told me the information I needed in good English. Interesting also was that none of the higher ups in the branch wanted to help either just letting the poor teller sink or swim on her own. I felt sorry for her.

Just have to have lots of patience and be persistent. Part of life in Thailand.

The best advice concerning all such dealings is to learn Thai or to find a willing and reliable, English-speaking Thai friend to help you.
This is the way

Taking a Thai person with you who can speak English is a viable option - learning to speak Thai (fluently) as a long-term objective is a great idea, but in the short term isn't a viable solution.

Being able to speak thai isnt the answer. My thai wife had to speak to her bank from england on skype as her thai mobile sim card had ran out of credit so when she tried to transfer money out of her thai bank account to our english account she couldnt answer the text security code. When she spoke to them in thai she had to ring 3 times and it seemed tyat she had to go in person to sign a form. They could not underrstand why a thai girl wanted to send money to an english bank account. Obviously bucks the trends but they were no help at all. We have just left the money in the thai account and will sort when on holiday. She gets wound up dealing with thai office workers etcand iv never seen her get angry

That was the case, but I suspect now one finds no banks in MV at all.

The banks have relocated to the end nearest the road on the 2nd (or is it 3rd) floor of MV.

Yes, MV moved the banks to a location they couldn't seem to rent or nobody wanted. At least all are located in the same immediate area though it is a bit farther than before but much less congested.

My personal experience of Kasikorn is that it's a massive improvement. There's room for customers and tellers now. Before, there wasn't much room for the customers.

Ayudthaya Bank on Phetkasem road near to police station have good staff, so does Kasikorn in Market Village.

Don't go anywhere near TMB or KTB in MV, god alone knows why I opened accounts with them, just doing that was a nightmare now every time I go in takes forever to do the simplest things. Soon to close them anyway.

Just how do other residents manage who do not speak very good English and no Thai.

Why don't banks address this issue just as airlines have done in having staff who speak multiple languages. Oh stupid me I forgot this is Thailand.
