Some time ago I was told by somebody that you could not get your hair cut on Wednesdays in Hua Hin. I replied htta I had never noticed but maybe by pure chance and the fact I don't use them very often that I had not noticed.
Anyway today I was told that I was begining to look like a geriatric hippy and had to get my hair cut. However it was Wednesday so I would have to look a state for one more day.
I asked why ther was a problem on Wednesday and it turns out that there are many things that are considered unlucky to do on certain days. Getting you hair cut on Wednesdays is one. It is alos unlucky to buy and wear new clothes on Saturday, (i.e. you can bu them but must wait ubtil Sunday to wear them.
Does anybody know of any others.
Personally I would add that it is unlucky for Thais to gamble on any day that has a Y in it.
Good Luck
Good luck
It is considered unlucky to cut anything on a Wednesday - hair, trees, bushes etc.. There is a colour of the day as a Thai tradition: Sunday is red: Monday is yellow: Tuesday is pink: Wednesday is green: Thursday is orange: Friday is sky blue: Saturday is purple.
"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein
It was only the other day that I realised that it unlucky to cut your nails on a Wednesday - as huahinian has mentioned.
Also, when we got married, my mother-in-law, who's a Buddhist nun, insisted we got married before a certain date. If we didn't it was off for three months. That's Buddhist Lent, when anything of a major undertaking can't be done either - ie house moving.
