I am in Shanghai, last night I was walking to a meet friends and had to cross a busy five way intersection. I had to wait for 2 green lights and had time to watch. The traffic and pedestrians were VERY orderly. All the traffic in lanes, nobody cheating on light changes. Pedestrians waiting for the lights to change in their favor.
In the middle of the intersection is a small traffic island. On it there was a cop and his bike,a big Chinese Harley ripoff. The cop had on his black shiny high boots, his black jodhpurs, his black leather jacket and, of course, shades. He is sitting there cross legged tapping his night stick on his boots--you just knew he was what Americans call a 'Kick-ass cop" You know that nobody is going to try anything when this mother is watching you.
He exhibited more authority than the whole Royal Thai Police put together.
Shanghai cop

I was in Shanghai area 5 days last month and fairly much observed much the same at Dr Mike. Traffic very disciplined. I was even more pleased the courtesy extended to disabled and elderly persons (locals ans tourists). Special seating in the high speed trains and the railway stations.
