HOUSE DRINKING WATER SYSTEM

Post by Brit Jim »

Morning Troops!

Can someone please PM me a shop or contractor that supplies / fits a drinking water system for the house.

The city water coming into the house is amazingly BAD...even with the tanks cleaned.

I had a good response for the automatic gate query with the same name / company being recommended.

PM me if anyone needs it...

Thanks!

Jim..maybe define to us WHAT system you're after..?
Most of my mates opt for the delivery of drinking water in the largish plaggy bottles..(we buy 2 at-a-time, my mate has a guy bring him 8 at each order).
A customer of ours has installed a water-system that collects (so he says) up to 12 litres/day from the atmosphere..this system cost him 30,000B! (now they are about 25k I think..?).
Sorry but would have to ask him to find out where from & if it needs 'installing'..?

Hi US

My neighbour has One stainless steel cylinder approx 1 metre high with 3 small cylinder type filters with pipework to his water tank.
There is a tap close to this equipment and he draws drinking water from it. I believe this is a pretty basic system and this is all I am looking for. Nothing fancy or expensive. I do not want to drink water from the internal taps. Sorry I can not be any more specific!!

My neighbour has lost the contact No for the guy that did this work....

US: Can you please PM me the guy who delivers the large plastic bottles?

Thanks

Jim, I'm not sure I'd drink tap water here however good or expensive the filter was.

It's not worth asking where US buys his water unless you live next door.
The white plastic 20-litre containers can be bought from most little Mom and Pop stores. If you see one of the delivery pick-ups driving by or near your house, give it a wave and it will stop and sell you as much as you like.
We now only use that for cooking and buy brand-name water for drinking.
This is the way

From what I can gather, these guys have their own areas, and it's not good form to cross into another's territory. Unless you live in the same are as US, you're probably asking for the wrong contact details.

You'll often see them on their motorbike and sidecars or clapped out pick ups making deliveries - stop one in your area and ask.

If you are not going to maintain the system/clean the filters I agree.

We installed a system similar to the one that you are looking for, bought at Thai Watsadu. I believe that they will also install them for you, although we used our almost resident builder. We use the system for well water and it works fine for house water sinks/showers etc.

In addition we bought a system (UV & Reverse osmosis) for use as drinking water. To be honest the drinking water is ok (tested) but i still prefer to buy branded drinking water and use the internally UV filtered water for cooking coffee/tea etc.

As you head north out of town towards Cha Am, there is a business on the left around about opposite to Index Mall that sell and fits household water filter units. 15-25,000 bt for something that does the water supply for the whole house.

There was! That is Pure / Filter Mart and they have moved to just north of the palace traffic lights, on the beach side of Petchkasem Rd. Next to the VW repair place.

I use a company that delivers all over the place in the Hua Hin area. They bring it into my house and stock the shelves and fridge. Give them a tip obviously. Those big 25l bottles are 12 Bt per refill. Normal drinking water 35 Bt per dozen large bottles. Small bottles of mineral water cannot remember but certainly cheaper than the supermarkets. Best thing to do is just ask at a local shop in your area.

I keep seeing reference to Reverse Osmosis systems and also the warnings in other posts about it as true RO water needs to be remineralised. I used a true RO system for my fish tank back in the UK and had to stop when we had a water meter fitted as for every litre of filtered water produced about four went down the drain. It also required a certain (not sure how much) pressure in order for the system to work which is likely more than is supplied by the muncipality if any all. Do the systems available here work on the same principle and if so what happens to the waste water. Would an RO system also need some kind of UV filter in line with it to kill of any nasties? We use the local 25 ltr bottles at home without any problems and considerably cheaper than fitting any system that would need filters changing at regular intervals, usually a particlate and charcoal filter at the very least.

Totally agreed but only if you are using a bottled source that you know is ok. I have yet to see any relaible bottled source in HH, except for the smaller bottles. The larger bottles/containers are sealed by some makeshift tape and you have no idea what is inside.

Yes Guys Many Thanks for your time and advice!

Previously I did use the 25L Bottles and this was fine! After seeing my neighbour's system I thought it may be good to upgrade now I m living here full time. Several people have already recommended Pure / Filter Mart near the palace so I think this will be my starting point. If expensive then I will revert to the 25 L bottles and branded water bottles!

Yes I know where your coming from!

When I first came to Hua Hin I always used the water for brushing my teeth and it always ended in tears!

Some folk said it was Ok whilst others argued it was asking for trouble. For me it was trouble.

Now I never use the water for teeth cleaning, always branded water bottles.

Overall no problems!
