Prachuap Khiri Khan a 'disaster area'
All districts in this central province have been declared disaster areas after strong winds and rains ravaged many places on Saturday.
Prachuap Khiri Khan governor Veera Sriwattanatrakul announced on Sunday that eight districts were damaged with Sam Roi Yot, Muang and Thap Sakae hardest hit by the storms.
The announcement will enable the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office to quickly help people affected by the storms with a 20 million baht budget.
A survey found 445 houses were destroyed and 85 coastal fishing boats sunk or damaged. Public utilities such as electricity poles were brought down by the summer storms.
Each damaged house will receive no more than 33,000 baht for repairs and the owners of the fishing boats will have financial aid of 11,000 baht, the governor said.
The storms hit the province at 3am on Saturday followed by heavy rains and high waves up to four metres in the Gulf of Thailand.

On another thread today we also have an "...unplaned holiday..." Which I guess could have been quite an uneven and very rough time....or an aircraft problem.nanyang wrote:Big Boy wrote:WowWe obviously got away quite likely then.

We must have had quite a strong wind though as my Yorkshire flag was ripped to shreds and my balconys were covered in leaves and bracken

Funny that - I drove past about 10 this morning and said to Mrs BB that you'd taken it down. The Thai and King's flags still looked good.richard wrote: my Yorkshire flag was ripped to shreds

ReBANGKOK, 15 April 2013 : Prachuap Khiri Khan a 'disaster a
http://thainews.prd.go.th/centerweb/new ... 4150010002
Date : 15 เมษายน 2556
BANGKOK, 15 April 2013 (NNT) - The weather bureau has warned southern residents to brace for more heavy rains during the next few days.
The Meteorological Department said a low pressure cell covering the Andaman Sea coupled with westerly winds prevailing over the South created heavy rains in most parts of the region. Provinces which will be severely affected by the storms include Songkla, Chumphon and Surat Thani.
All shipping should proceed with caution today and tomorrow, as strong winds are set to generate waves up to 3-meter high.
In the Central Plains, tropical storms are expected in some provinces such as Lopburi, Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi. Late yesterday, storms caused blackouts, road accidents and uprooted trees in many districts of Ayutthaya.

Not sure just how there can be "westerly winds" when the whole of the Andaman sea and all the way to and including India, is one huge low pressure area? The Meteorological Department said a low pressure cell covering the Andaman Sea coupled with westerly winds .........................

There is an equally huge HIGH pressure area east of China and in the South China Sea, which is causing the easterly to south easterly winds in the south of Thailalnd, and widespread thunderstorms and rain over much of the rest of the country.
I was always taught that air flows from areas of high pressure to low pressure areas, just like anything else that has a pressure difference.

As threatening as the clouds have looked over the past 4 days, we have only seen rain the once on Fri night/Sat morning and even that was not a huge amount, so a bit more would be more than welcome.
