Making Hua Hin a haven for art

Post by buksida »

Artists from Baan Sillapin (Artists' House) in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin district have currently teamed up to display their works at Lanna Art Gallery and Shop at Evason Hua Hin and Six Senses Spa Hotel Pranburi.

Art lovers and hotel guests can enjoy visiting the gallery featuring dozens of landscape paintings and realistic and abstract works executed in watercolour and oil, as well as black and white pictures.

Pol Sgt Maj Amornrat Thongpreecha, a 33-year-old border police teacher-cum-artist and owner of Lanna Art and Gallery Shop, is the brains behind the project.

"I really want to make both Thai and foreign tourists know that Hua Hin and the nearby district of Pranburi also have a vibrant art scene. And whenever they come here, they will feel the artistic atmosphere and love it," she said.

She said she also wanted her gallery to be the hub of local artists in Pranburi, a venue where they can display their new works.

"I think my gallery will be like another channel for local artists to sell their works. And buyers will have an opportunity to get to know the artists themselves at the gallery," she said.

Pol Sgt Maj Amornrat, also known as Khun Kru Su among local artists and students, has had a passion for art and music since she was a girl.

She graduated in primary education from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and is working as an art and English language teacher at Ban Khao Chao Border Patrol Police School in Pranburi.

"I love art, and I always paint. Art is in my blood _ it is my life," she said.

Saravudh Ganchanatavorn, 48, who paints realistic watercolours, said he decided to join the Lanna Art gallery because he believed it would draw international art lovers and hotel guests to see his works.

Saravudh, a Narathiwat native, has been working as an artist since he graduated from the College of Fine Arts. He worked with other artists in Chiang Mai before moving to Hua Hin about a decade ago.

"Hua Hin and Pranburi are renowned for seaside beaches and resorts, but they also have the potential to be great art venues. It is so beautiful here, it is appropriate for artists who like painting realistic pictures and art lovers who like nature," said Saravudh.
