A Swiss man wanted on bank robbery charges in his own country has been arrested in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin resort town.
Gerber Enzo, 42, was apprehended yesterday at his upmarket home in tambon Thab Tai of Hua Hin district by a team of officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).
The DSI seized the suspect's 5-million-baht house, bank accounts with 4 million baht in cash, 60,000 Swiss francs (about 1.8 million baht), 13.5 baht-weight of gold jewellery worth about 263,000 baht, and 19 vehicles, including cars and motorcycles.
The arrest of the suspect followed a request by authorities in Switzerland who asked the DSI to arrest Mr Enzo for his alleged involvement in the robbery of a bank in that country on March 19, DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said.
Public prosecutors in Bern had issued a warrant for his arrest following an investigation into the March 19 robbery.
The suspect allegedly robbed the bank and made off with money worth the equivalent of 150 million baht before fleeing to Thailand.
The suspect had reportedly used the stolen money to buy the luxury house where he was arrested.
He was staying in the house with his Thai wife, Mr Tarit said.
The DSI was examining the suspect's background, he said, adding Mr Enzo appeared to have planned his escape to Thailand well.
Mr Tarit said the DSI and Swiss police would investigate how the suspect brought some of the money he allegedly stole into Thailand undetected.
Pol Maj Gen Kriangsak Aroonrisophon, chief of the Immigration Police's Division 3, said the suspect would be blacklisted and deported back to his country.

I beg to differ... the green design on the front of his shirt makes him instantly recognizable imo. If only he had chosen more nondescript attire he could have simply blended into the crowd in a small town like Hua Hin, and would probably still be walking freely around Market Village without any fear of being recognized.prcscct wrote:Newspaper section: News

I think that's unfair on the Swiss tax payers. Lock him up in the BK Hilton for 3 years, then blacklist him and then deport him.Pol Maj Gen Kriangsak Aroonrisophon, chief of the Immigration Police's Division 3, said the suspect would be blacklisted and deported back to his country.
He should have completely tattooed himself all over and escaped to Africa then he maybe would not have stood out in a crowd
Will his Thai g/f inherit his house and cars if bought in her name?

Sorry Richard - don't follow your logic there.richard wrote:.........I think that's unfair on the Swiss tax payers. Lock him up in the BK Hilton for 3 years, then blacklist him and then deport him.............
He committed the crime in Switzerland - so he should be banged up there.prcscct wrote:..............The arrest of the suspect followed a request by authorities in Switzerland who asked the DSI to arrest Mr Enzo for his alleged involvement in the robbery of a bank in that country on March 19, DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said..............
Why burden the Thai tax payer?...............
Re: DSI nabs Swiss theft suspect (Hua Hin)
Banged up in BK Hilton at the expense of Swiss taxpayers then. Part sentence in Thailand and part sentence in Switzerland. Got to be good for the Swiss taxpayer as I'm sure a Thai prison upkeep is cheaper than a Swiss prison
