A short article from The Guardian today saying that the consumption of milk here is going to be encouraged to raise the average height of the population.
Interesting to see that Thailand is reckoned to have the fifth highest consumption of alcohol per head in the world. Then again, maybe it's not that surprising?

If there's all that stuff in a pint how come cows still get BSE?
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

I do agree with this idea, drinking milk is so beneficial for growth. It has several vital nutrition that strengthen bones and make you taller.
Re: Thais to get taller by drinking more milk?
Are there any actual health benefits of being taller?

PETA attacks 'Got Milk' campaign

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia has slammed the Public Health Ministry's "Got Milk" campaign, which promotes daily milk consumption, as a short-sighted policy which should be replaced with "Got Soy Milk".
In a letter to Deputy Public Health Minister Cholanan Srikaew, PETA said the recently launched campaign calling for more milk consumption to boost people's height seems a bit short-sighted. It suggests that the ministry instead recommend soy milk, which PETA says is healthier and also safe for people who are lactose intolerant or have milk allergies.
Jason Baker, vice president of international operations of PETA Asia, said foods high in animal protein, such as milk, produce acidic by-products when they are broken down, so the body neutralises the acid with calcium. However, it takes more calcium to neutralise the acid than milk contains so the body has to go to its calcium stores - the bones.
He said a growing number of people worldwide are either lactose intolerant or have milk allergies. Lactose intolerance is actually most common in people of East Asian descent, with more than 90% of adults in some communities reporting symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting.
"For those who prefer to enjoy their milk without having to take a sick day, soy is a far more viable option," Mr Baker said in the letter.
In PETA's view, soy milk is also a more ethical option because cows used by the dairy industry are repeatedly impregnated to force their bodies to keep producing milk, and their calves torn away from them and often sold for veal. Animal farming is also a major contributor to climate change, the destruction of natural resources and pollution.
The "Got Milk" campaign exploits people by casting a charming physical characteristic in a negative light and also puts the health of the public second to the profits of the dairy industry, accordiong to PETA.
The letter therefore urged the campaign be changed to "Got Soy Milk."

The entire campaign is destined to be an udder failure.

Yes and I'm sure that those with such allergies would have been so blinded my the sheer genius of the campaign that they would have forgotten all about their allergy and headed straight for a bottle of milk.Nereus wrote:PETA attacks 'Got Milk' campaign It suggests that the ministry instead recommend soy milk, which PETA says is healthier and also safe for people who are lactose intolerant or have milk allergies.
And encouraging people without allergies to drink Soy milk when ordinary milk will do just fine will more than likely increase that number in generations to come!He said a growing number of people worldwide are either lactose intolerant or have milk allergies.
