Persistent "canker sores"
Hello,
must get persistent canker sores(?) checked at Bangkok Hospital Dental Surgery.
A bit worried that the canker sores might turn out to be oral cancer.
Everyone should be aware of and watch out for the early symptoms
oral cancer!

Streuth. It's a tad early to be thinking cancer, Major. You'll worry yourself into an early grave. How about discounting other possibilities first.
How long have you been having them and have you noticed any pattern? I know of one person who gets them when he eats certain foods, mainly corn. So, biscuits, sandwiches, popcorn. You may not know what your trigger might be perhaps because of a lack of awareness. Try experimenting with suspect foods. Eliminate grains completely for a week, then introduce one at a time, slowly... start with corn, then wheat, soy, oats.

Please also clarify what you mean by 'persistent'. Is it a sore in one place that doesn't go away? If so, then I would seek medical advice. If they just keep coming and going, then my feeling is still diet.

I agree fully with this, one persistent sore in same location, concern.... Multiple sores moving around something causing them....MrPlum wrote:Please also clarify what you mean by 'persistent'. Hi,
thanks for your kind messages & advice.
Unfortunately it's persistent sore in same location!
I have an appointment with ENT specialist at Bangkok Hospital tomorrow.
Promise to keep you posted!
Frankly the prospect of not being able to speak doesn't bother me a bit, as long as I can read
and listen to music!
Have never been much of a talker anyway!Lol
Warm regards,

Re: Persistent "canker sores"
Hello.
saw the ENT doctor at Bangkok Hospital.
She had a look, and thought the "lesions" were not malignant.
She prescribed a special ointment which I have started applying
on the "sores".
She wants to check me again two weeks on.
I thought she was a bit young.
So if the ointment does not work, I shall get a second opinion.
There are two maxillo facial surgeons at Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin.
It's understandable though that she would first try the ointment,
before resorting to the heavy artillery stuff.
I'll keep you posted.
Take care!

Re: Persistent "canker sores"
Hello,
feeling greatly relieved.
I am pretty sure now my doctor's diagnosis that my sores or patches are not malignant was right.
It does seem that what I mistook for the familiar "canker sores" were actually symptoms
of Oral Lichen Planus which can persist for longer than the 2-6 weeks, even up to eight months.
The raised whitish patches and linear streaks on the inside of the cheek confirm this diagnosis.
Oral Cancer is the worst type of cancer that I would not wish on my worst enemy.
Being diagnosed with cancer for the second time would have seemed a bit harsh and unfair.
So I hope the matter is closed for good.
Take care!

Re: Persistent "canker sores"
Hello,
had my second appointment after applying the paste for two weeks.
The lesions in my cheek - not much change, but they don't hurt anyway which
confirms the Oral Lichen Planus diagnosis. They can last for 8 months or more.
About the sore in my tongue - which may be another symptom of Oral Lichen Planus -
the ENT doctor thinks the tongue might be irritated by sharp edged teeth.
So I shall see a dentist tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Mike

MajorBloodnok - A relative of mine would get sores/lesions in his mouth when eating fresh pineapple. He never touches it now, but who would have thought?
Good to hear all is well with you.

Re: Persistent "canker sores"
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water a few times a day. Canker sores should go away in a couple days. Should help the sore on your tongue as well.

Re: Persistent "canker sores"
Hello,
thanks for your advice.
The "canker sores" turned out to be Oral Lichen Planus which takes
much longer to heal.
One should abstain from citrus beverages & fruit.

Grapefruit seed extract destroys cold sores. Perhaps it could help.
