Visa runners might be able to answer this. If you do the Ranong run you pay USD 20 for the Myanmar visum. Can you travel further inland on this one or are you limited to visiting the market/town called Kawthaung?
Anyone done this? Friends plan to go to Kawthaung airport (yes there is one) and book a domestic flight to Yangon (Rangoon).

Re: Travelling in Myanmar
When I was there, admittedly in years gone by, you couldn't travel much more than some 3-5 kms outside of the town.
This information may be outdated and I don't know whether the boundary included the airport. You also had to leave your passport with Imm in the town for which you got a receipt.

I did the visa run via Ranong last monday. Above the door of the Myanmar immigration 'shed' is a sign which says that you are only allowed to travel a certain distance inland. There is certainly a '3' involved, but I can't remember whether it's 'miles' or 'kilometres'. Hope that helps.

No, foreigners are not permitted to travel inland or fly out of Kawthoug (yet).
