Since eggs have a hard shell it is hard to tell if they've gone bad by smell or sight which are the usual methods for other foods, however, there is an easy way to tell. Put the egg(s) in a deep bowl or pan of water just before you cook them. If an egg floats, throw it out as it is bad. Safe to eat eggs will sink to the bottom. If an egg sinks to the bottom, but stands on end there, it is still ok to eat but this one should be cooked immediately.Takiap......she doesn't refrigerate the eggs but leaves them in a bowl on the counter. Is that safe, and how long is safe? Pete

Is this thread about advertising free range eggs or how to cook eggs?

Re: Free range garden eggs
It's a "Wikipoultry" thread.
PS: DB, I tried using eggs that were laid on the day for poaching, and at last I was successful. They didn't look quite as neat and tidy as a fried egg, but very close indeed.

Glad to hear that, I normally end up using 1-2 day old eggs but they still retain their shape pretty well - mind you they do likewise when you fry them and of course taste great!!Takiap wrote:It's a "Wikipoultry" thread.![]()

Thanks - I'll nip down and get one. Similar beasts in the UK used to see about 1 in 4 explode in the microwave, making a terruble mess.DAVYCHEZ wrote:Yes it does work and for 60THB is great value!

Re: Free range garden eggs
No, but I used to stab the yolk with a fork (4 pricks instead of one).
