Favourite to win the Open at Muirfield

Post by bonnielass »

Come on then all you golfers!
Let's see who can predict who's gonna win the Open?

I would love for Mickelson to do it, but I just don't think he is a great links man.
So my money is on the Big Easy - Ernie Els.

It would be good if it was a close finish, or even a play-off, makes it much more nail-biting .......

I would like to see Lee Westwood win to be equal with his BinL Darren Clarke but i dont think he will
I would like to see Ian Poulter win But he is a matchplay specialist so dont see him winning
I would like to see Justin Rose win he plays links golf well T4 as an amateur and now with a US open his confidence will be high added to that his US open win was on a course that demanded accuracy and that will be vital at Muirfield
I would be happy to see Phil Mickelson win he wants a BRITISH (for Scotian only) Open win so badly and he is a nice guy all round added to his SCOTTISH (for Scotian only) Open win he has shown he can now play links golf
My personal bet is Adam Scott he now has the specter of last years defeat to Ernie behind him and a major Trophy in his wardrobe he will be full of confidence and determined to go one better and last year showed he could play links golf
I will also put a small each way on Ernie he seems so laid back the Ernie of old and he is a double defending champion and on a course he has won on before but it is some ask

I like your thinking Sarge.
I too would like nothing more than Lee Westwood to win.
But as the years pass, along with the chances he has missed, he doesn't seem to have that killer instinct to clinch the title. Another Monty perhaps, a great golfer but no major...

Agree for Ernie to win would be a bit of an ask.
But when you think what Watson did a few years back.
The older guys ain't ready to retire.
And Ernie knows how to get out of those humongous bunkers.

Of course Scott will be very determined after his meltdown last year.

If the weather stays fine as forecast, it will also give the Americans a better chance.
As you know, most of them can't handle the normal British wet and windy climate.

Hey ho, 4 days in front of the box. Popcorn and beer at the ready!
Do you guys get TV coverage in Thailand?

My choice would be Mickelson. He seems to have got his head around how to play on a Links GC. With regards to Westwood he is good enough but had his chance at ST Andrews few years. Back but Choked on the last day as he seems to do quite often. Deciding factor though will be the Weather, good Scottish Weather. Sunshine one day then Horizontal Rain the next with 70 mph breeze :)

Well at the moment, the forecast is partly cloudy with mid 20s temperatures.
But, as we know, that can change rapidly.

Mr P, the odds are in favour of Woods; this seems strange in view of his record at Muirfield, where he carded his worst score ever as a Pro.

If you live in a place where you can put on a wager, the odds are pretty good, with even Woods as favourite paying out 8-1. Go for a Wildcard and you get 100-1, Bubba Watson for example.

I am no Woods fan Bonnielass but to be fair to tiger it was the worst ever weather the day he carded that score and the weather seems to be and is forecast to be quite good this time.
However i do not rate his chances he is wild of the tee and a NEW driver in his bag says he is not as confident as his handlers portray him or he puts himself over

The way I played on Tuesday, the favourite should be me but I seem to have forgotten to qualify.
Only joking!!

I am no Woods fan either.
And I think he is really under too much pressure from the media these days.
Couple of bad shots and he starts to beat himself up.
But if the weather is fine, who knows.
One of the Irish boys might deliver this year.
Too much sex or not, I wouldn't write Rory off just yet.
