In my limited experience and very humble opinion, absolutely NO, unless you have a high tolerance for speculative losses and volatility. Of course it depends on your stage of life and obligations as to long or short term investments, whether or not you are preserving your capital or taking a risk on the longer term view that the overall market position will rise (I think,it will). It depends on your needs for capital growth or for some income from your shares or both.
A balanced portfolio of a wide range of products is always recommended, and unless you are well informed and prepared to do a lot of hard work -vigilantly then you might be better off using a large fund management group to do the hard yards.
I have investments in Japanese blue chip, Chinese stock market, USA Blue chip, some strongly performing Australian equities, especially Aus banks, some blue chip commodities and a few of the big gold miners with good long term prospects as well as some of the bigger performers on the world stage.
Investing in the smaller bourses of SE Asia is for experts with nerves of steel and inside knowledge in my opinion, unless you have money to burn, in which case I would be happy to smoke some of it with you over a beer or two in any one of the bars that host local lovelies.

I would also say no, Thailand has some turbulent times ahead, when the SET plummets again that would be the time to get in for those looking at long term investments.

Burma is still largely controlled by the military, regardless of what you read in the press.

Thank you, all, for your input. Let me tell you what I did: UP 177.65 %

I created a PRACTICE portfolio with MONOPOLY money with an online investment company, in October 2012. I researched; traded lightly for about 2 weeks, checked it once a month, made adjustments; changed my mind a little, etc.

Now, it consists of ESYJY MLM CD MO RGC HPY RGR BEAM XOM and WFC
I had a small amount of MDBX that shot up 3000 % but I missed it's rise/fall and sold it; with still a profit; nearer where I bought it: I had some HBC SRHBF F and NNN but sold them, somewhere along the line: SO...I repeat ... this was not real money, damn it.

MY Question to the people who are up to date, and involved in the market: What specifically should I be researching,NOW... to put in my next PRACTICE portfolio? So I can start a real one in the future. I have been on the sidelines for years.

No negative comments, please.

investing real money takes courage and a lot of good research. you need to state your objectives first...long term, short term, income stream etc and to be clear about your plan and timing and needs.
having said that, there are a lot of good opportunities right now. For example, the USA is seeing a surge in house approvals...big players in this industry such as Thomas hardy are seriously undervalued (new starts are at 850,000 when the long term average is closer to 1.5 MLN so growth is very promising)
I have spec in NEN (asx) Neon Energy, a spud with interesting pedigree and a great deal of potential ..bought at .24 but good value even at current 34 (I think, need to check this)..see reports and read between lines, but potential 4-500c if the well comes in as anticipated, but this is only play money and a good bet, albeit a gamble. buyer beware. commodities are quite bullish right now and worth looking into. equities likewise. bond markets are collapsing on qe and money going out into growth areas. Japan has started it's own qe and looks real good, especially blue chips.china is still 7% plus and growing so worth investigating. Aus banks and Telstra, bhp give consistently good returns. gold will jump and good miners with 5-7 years of product look irresistible. GB is resurgent and has some nice growth potential if you are selective.
too many things to say, too little time in this forum. happy to discuss if you want to pm details and share a beer sometime. advice is free, but no responsibility for bad advice taken. Mai bpen rai ...mee karm sook after this outburst! hope this is helpful in getting you back into the sometimes nefarious world of investing.

For those of you looking for investing, I have recently had a big lose with a company in Australia and been doing some research in to things and have come across a guy by the name of john marks who as started monthly seminars in Asia teaching people how to invest there money and keep it safe and not to use brokers or financial investors who put your hard earned cash in to some thing and get paid a commission which at the end of the day will eventually go bad on you, I had a long chat with him yesterday he called me from Malaysia at his cost, all the work he does is free.

If you would like to speak to him the web site is expatinvestmentclub.com just fill out the enquiry form and he will get in touch with you.

I hope this helps those of you looking for investing and hopefully there's enough of us here to get together with him and start our own group here in hua hin rather then traveling to Bangkok.
Fill free to pm me if you would want to have a chat I'm learning the hard way
