Capital One Cup 2013/14
Capital One Cup 2013/14
Tomorrow sees the first round of this farce, where teams give an outing to their reserves in a bid to get to Wembley. It's definitely not a competition that many take seriously, and has little bearing on how a team's first eleven is performing. Why the competition is still played, I just don't know.
As always, I'll be hoping that the Green Army exit at the first hurdle to avoid injuries, bookings etc. We need to concentrate initially on safety in the Football League, and then achieve a play-off position at least.

I suspect Swansea might disagree with you as it has given them a chance to play in Europe.

Yes, it's a chance for the better, but not top teams, but it's a megga inconvenience for everybody else.

Can the lower teams not opt out just as Man U did a few years ago from the FA Cup? Maybe it`s one rule for the mega clubs and another for the minnows.
Re: Capital One Cup 2013/14
I thought Man U opted out of the FA Cup (or was it both). Teams could certainly opt out in the early years of the competition, but I was under the impression it was mandatory now.

Re: Capital One Cup 2013/14
Well, the Green Army went out as expected to a team 2 divisions above them. Pleasingly, they only picked up one yellow card and no serious injuries on the way. Contrary to my personal dismissive thoughts about this competion, the game did have a positive outcome for the Green Army. After Saturday's defeat by the only goal, the fanbase was down and out. However, this gutsy display (probably against a reserve team) has given the fans renewed hope for the rest of the season.
Excellent wins for Morecambe, Newport, Accrington and Stevenage last night against higher league opposition.

But still good when a team like Rotherham Utd can get bragging rights over Sheffield Wednesday!!

A goal to remember:
Another giant killing last night by Carlisle, beating Blackburn on penalties.

Capital One Cup 2013-2014
Thought I'd start a thread on this. We have many spurs fans on the forum so this thread should last quite a while with contributions from us
Nice headline here - In-form Spurs thrash Aston Villa 4-0

Looking forward to the Man U - Liverpool clash. With Suarez back in the mix and United looking to bounce back from their recent hammering, it should be a fiery clash.

Well, it was far from being a classic match. Neither side really shone, but I think a fairer result would have seen the scoreline reversed.GLCQuantum wrote:Looking forward to the Man U - Liverpool clash. Yes,but dont forget Liverpool had more or less their first choice side out whereas for United there was no Evra,Ferdinand,Vidic,Carrick,Fellaini,Van Persie etc.......we had a team mostly comprising of inexperienced youngsters like Giggs !

We're all on our uppers,we're all going skint,

Actually, I was quite impressed at the quality of both teams fielded yesterday. Normally in this competition you see the U.21 teams fielded. I only got up to watch it because my son is a closet Utd fan, and I thought I'd keep him company. Utd were certainly missing something in front of goal. Suarez had a few moments though.

So, will Chelsea's reward for cruising past Arsenal be another London derby v the Spuds, assuming they can get past Hull (with another 1-0 penalty win, no doubt)!
Why is the Sunderland v Saints game delayed until next week?
