The cost of living is expected to rise from Sunday as cooking gas prices, electricity tariffs and expressway tolls increase simultaneously.
Among several bills due to rise starting Sunday is the electricity tariff.
From Sunday, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will rise 50 satang per kilogramme every month from 18.13 baht/kg now, until it reaches 24.82 baht/kg in September next year.
The fuel tariff (Ft) rate for electricity will also rise by seven satang per unit.
After the rise, the Ft will be 54 satang per unit, up from the current 46.92 satang.
The Ft is reviewed every four months.
Tolls for urban expressways will also increase by 5-10 baht, depending on vehicle size, starting Sunday....... http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/3 ... -on-sunday

Love the way this government gives with one hand and takes with the other. We'll secure your votes by upping minimum wage, putting you into debt with rebates on new cars, buying cheap tablets for schools. Then we'll have it all back by increasing the cost of food, electricity, alcohol, petrol, gas, buying from neighbors forcing the cost of local crops down, screwing you over rice, and keeping the currency inflated so your exports are worth less.
Bet the reds are seeing red now.

Cooking gas is very heavily subsidised. It is also 'supposed' to be cheaper than the LPG that is used for cars, but I'll guess a lot has been diverted for vehicular use. It'll still be cheaper than diesel (which is in itself heavily subsidised) even after September next year.
The problem with subsidies is that they *could* evaporate without warning and catch people off guard.
Benzine prices go up by 50 satang per week(!) so I don't see what they're really griping about.
They could go back to using charcoal...

Talking of utility bills, I went to pay mine this morning at the Electricity offices, and the lady there told me that from next month, they will have an office on the third floor of Market Village where bills can be paid. as she said, it might be easier if you're already heading there.
However, regarding the 7 to 10 days grace, shortly after I paid the bill today, I had a phone call saying that I was going to be cut off at 3 pm if I didn't pay in time. I explained I had just paid this morning.
As the due date was the 2nd September, that's only 3 days grace.

To compound our problem, we had a 3rd aircon unit fitted about 6 weeks ago, so I was expecting a substantial increase. No, our latest bull is about 300 Baht cheaper than our previous low.
I'm starting to believe that I must have a faulty meter. Never mind, TIT, I mustn't get stressed. I'll just have to learn to live with it

Our electric bill was very similar to last months, however the water bill had doubled. Go figure.

Not sure about where you are Buksi, but in some areas they do not read the water meter every month, just take an average of past consumption. Then when they do get around to reading the meter the bill gets adjusted to bring it up to date.buksida wrote:Our electric bill was very similar to last months, however the water bill had doubled. Re: Utility bills, tolls rise from Sunday Sept. 1
We've always had monthly bills, I just figure they'd read it wrong this month as it was 700 baht as opposed to the 300 odd that it has been for years (and I've checked for leaks).

I'm with you. Water never been more than 100 baht
Re: Utility bills, tolls rise from Sunday Sept. 1
I've received both within the last week and the water bill was 98 baht, the electric was 3500, down about 500 from last month.

How on earth do you water that epic garden for 100 baht? I presume most of ours goes on keeping the plants alive!

I sold that epic garden (and house), and one of the reasons was that watering it caused me to have a 1000 baht per month water bill on average. I now live in a rental that still has a fairly large front garden almost equal to what I had before in grass area (nothing in back though) and in 4 months have not had a bill over 100 baht. Also, even though I still run one aircon almost 24/7 (in whatever room I'm in), my average 12k baht electric bill on the house before has dropped to between 3.5k and 4k every month. How on earth do you water that epic garden for 100 baht? The moral of that story is... don't build/buy a large home with a large garden here.

Re: Utility bills, tolls rise from Sunday Sept. 1
I am not sure if this is true for every one, but at our condo in Khao Talieb, (Seacraze) the Municipality has started charging for Waste Water or Sewage. The calculation is based on water usage. For instance we pay 20 Baht per unit of water. So if we use 5 units of water we pay 5x20=100 Baht. Now we have to add to that waste water. 4 Baht per 80% of units used. So if we use 5 units, we pay 5x.8=4 units times 4 Baht = 4 units x 4 Baht = 16 Baht.
So our total bill is now 100 Baht plus 16 Baht = 116 Baht. (Based on usage of 5 units of water) This was effective September 1, 2013 at our condo. Now let's hope we actually get some waste water treatment or sewage treatment to prevent these waste from entering the Gulf of Thailand.

I wouldn't have to manage my anger if people could learn to mange their stupidity!
