Big Boy, your marriage is recognized in Thailand, but obviously for certain things, you might need an official translation of your British marriage certificate.

Big Boy, I have never had to show my U.S. marriage license/certificate/proof for anything here in Thailand, nor in the U.S when I originally applied for my OA visa. I applied for an OA visa for reason of retirement on my own and with my pension as financial source, and didn't even mention that I was married.

If you applied for a marriage visa I could understand having to show proof, so as far as I know I am not married according to the Thai government unless we go to the Amphur office and register it. That is when I would have to show the proof that we got married in the U.S.

I did it this way on purpose as I did not want to depend on a marriage visa to live here in case things went pear shaped as well as because of the aforementioned law that would have stripped my wife of the right to own land and her voting rights since we got married before the law was changed. Also, marriage visas are more paperwork and as I understand it they have to be approved in Bangkok so even though things are still apple shaped and my pension is still enough to qualify for a "retirement" extension, I've seen no reason to do anything differently.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

You can have more than one wife under Thai law. Think the problems will only start arise (on a legal level, on a personal level they've probably been going on for a long time in this particular hypothetical situation!) when you try to bring your second Thai wife back to the UK. :)

I'm beginning to believe that the majority on this forum CAN'T READ.

Before you make some inane reply, read from whence the original statement/question came.

Pleng.- The law in Thailand has never allowed you to marry more than one 'wife'. You are talking about 'temple weddings' and that is NOT the law.
