Clothing For Cyclists?

Post by Green Nomad »

Does any of the cyclists on the forum know where to buy cycling gear?..I am actually wanting to buy a pair of those padded type shorts with the leg grippers.

I have read that the Hua Hin Bike shop sells clothing, but I haven't been in there for years. I am not in Hua Hin again until next month and want to order online so I can have for my ride outs this trip. But if this shop does sell them or can order that would be ideal, I will go see them and hope they can help. GN.

Drop the 'Usual Suspect' a P.M. He will quite happily keep you right.....
I can only assume you are in the M.E. just now otherwise I would say purchase in Europe or U.S. and take over for you.

Green Nomad..yes Hua Hin Bike DO sell clothing, & yes padded-shorts (or 'nappy-pants' as the wife calls 'em) are available in HH..she got me some for Xmas, think she paid about 600B for them..but they do work well for me..I average 30-50kms every other day on/off road when in HH.
As for cycle shirts at Hua-Hin Bike..yes they have heaps of them, but you need a large-ish size..& as they mainly cater for the Thais your choice can be limited.
Another factor to consider is wearing a long-sleeved cycle-shirt..I do this on most morning trips 'cos it's damn hot by 10/11.00..but, on my last visit to HH Bike their L/S shirts were quite thick & to me not suitable.(1 option is short sleeved shirt+ those tattoo arm-stockings to keep the sun off.. :thumb: )
As yet I've never needed to venture into Bangkok & check out the large cycle shops there..?
This Autumn while I've been back here in the UK I've shopped online at 'Chain Reaction'..good site, great price range, they sell the baggy shirts/jerseys as well, (I just got a Kona loose/thin jersey from them)..always stuff on offer..IF you are truly stuck for shirts & pants & see some online, then send to me & I'll bring them out with me to HH mid Nov.
 U.S.

That has been my experience as well, I can't get the sizes of clothing I need in Thailand. Over the last couple of years I've bought all my cycle gear online from wiggle.com who mail overseas for very reasonable rates.

As others have said, Hua-Hin Bike has quite a big selection, and quite often does have larger sizes as well. I guess it just depends on how often they get new stock in. They are also very nice people and if they don't have what you're looking for, they'll get it for you.

I think the owners own one or two bike shops in Bangkok as well, and the one in Hua-Hin is mostly run by the wife and son, while Dad handles Bangkok.

Anyway, they are a very friendly and helpful bunch, and if you become a regular face, you'll tend to find small repairs and etc are often done for free.

Yes, I'll agree with that, I spent a couple of hours truing up a buckled wheel here this week and if I was in Hua Hin, I can get them to do it for 100 bt.

11/37-38 Phetkasem Road, that's on the right heading north from the town center, around about just after where soi 45 turns off towards the sea.

Jeremy..if you're going North out of HH, look for a PTT fuel-station on your right..HH Bike's shop is in the block of shop-houses just after PTT (& about where the central barrier in the middle of the road starts again).
The lady in the shop speaks limited English, does not smile much, but I always love her facial expressions..especially when you try haggle over the price of something..5-5.. :)
After you've shopped there a coupla times she'll give you discount without you asking.. :thumb:

Just don't stand too close to her or you may get singed by the flames.

She is an igorant dragon as far as I am concerned. How some of these people stay in business completely eludes me! :guns:
