Recommendations for lunch tomorrow
Okay fellers, here's one for you.
I want recommendations for lunch for 4 tomorrow (Friday).
Not Indian, not exclusively Thai, possibly with some decent (battered) fish 'n chips for Mrs D-M.
Italian is a definite maybe, but again, probably best to have an alternative choice of cuisine.
Somewhere I haven't been before, which rules out many of the obvious choices such as T90, Naab Thong, and the like.
Perhaps somewhere up soi 94?
German place?
Anyway, get your fingers out of your noses and give me some suggestions, please!

We've never been disappointed with Korat Kitchen, which seems to tick your boxes. Turn left at the first 'functional' cross roads as you drive up Soi 94.

Depends on what time your lunch is. On 94 right next to one another are Sakura Sushi and Dacha, both excellent choices.
The best Tournedos - barring none of the places I've ever temporarily infested - I've ever eaten was at Datcha and their rabbit is just as good.
I believe Sakura is open during the lunch but Datcha opens at around 15.00, unless you'll agree on earlier hour with the very accommodating owner Konstantin. His telephone is: 08676 991 87.
Choosing between Sakura and Datcha is like choosing between Eden and Paradise.

I was disappointed with korat kitchen the last 2 times and there are enough places that I won't be going back. a good light lunch spot I just came across is called swangchan just before kiri nakara on pala u road.. very light meals but tasty and good value. Great views.

Not on 94 but close by on 88/1 (which you can access from 94) is the newly re-opened Cajutan. I had a quick look at the menu on passing and it seems a bit more upmarket and had good reviews in the past from HHF etc if you Google it.

Re: Recommendations for lunch tomorrow
Light lunch... ?
Looking at about 1.30 ish. Have tried Sakura Sushi, but it's a bit specialised and not really to my taste.
Have been meaning to try Datcha for ages and might well give them a ring.
Korat Kitchen - any more comments? What kind of food/prices/seating?
Will Google Cajutan now...
EDIT: Internet info not much help at all on cajutan

Korat Kitchen is nothing special if you are taking visitors, just another everyday restaurant. Some seating in Salas. I got a takeaway last week, About 100 Baht for a chicken curry (yellow I think) and 70 Baht for fried mixed veg.
Edit : Cajutan a lot more expensive so more for a special occasion/visitors IMO from what I remember pasta dishes around 300 baht and F & C more than that.

Black Mountain Golf Club is excellent

I must admit, we haven't been there for a couple of months, and as you know, TIT, things change daily. Maybe PBbeacher hit them on a bad day, or we've been lucky to hit good days.dtaai-maai wrote:Korat Kitchen - any more comments? What kind of food/prices/seating?
Seating is half a dozen(ish) salas that give an intimate feeling, plus 3 or 4 tables and WOODEN chairs.
Prices are in the Khun Oy/Restaurant 94 ilk.
One place Mrs BB has been very impressed with recently is a restaurant on the hill (from Soi 88) to Hin Lek Fire. They specialise in Issan food, but also do Thai and European food. Prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name. However, you go past the Indian place on your left, and soon after there's a bit of waste land on the right where you can park (parking area is certainly marked coming down the hill, but not sure about going up). You then walk about 10 yards up the hill (slight incline at that point). The restaurant is clearly marked on your left, and has several adequate salas in the grounds of a large house.
If I actually had my thinking head on in the first place, I'd have recommended this above Korat Kitchen (cheaper as well). Only problem is that I'm not sure if they do fish and chips.

^^Understood, and let me be clear that I wasn't laughing at you, just at the vast chasm between
I may be wrong, but your light lunch sounds as though you eat out a lot. My lunch is usually light, but is eaten at home. When we do go out with friends, it's more often for lunch than dinner, and it usually becomes a fairly substantial part of the day.

Cajuntan - hold on, isn't that the Swedish place standing all on its own in a residential soi? Lots of nice dark wood? Closed about 3 years ago? If so, we went a couple of times and were very impressed.
This has become clear favourite...
and what we are looking for this afternoon.light meal= 60b for plate of tasty food
