Recommendations for lunch tomorrow

Too late now for lunch today, but a few suggestions from me would have been Kor Sor Resort up Soi 6, the winery (depending on weather), the Sailom Hotel beach side restaurant (great for seafood), and Supatra or The McFarland House (Hyatt) in Takiab, although I don't think any of those have fish and chips and a couple may be Thai food only, but very good Thai food.

One place Mrs BB has been very impressed with recently is a restaurant on the hill (from Soi 88) to Hin Lek Fire. They specialise in Issan food, but also do Thai and European food. Prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name. However, you go past the Indian place on your left, and soon after there's a bit of waste land on the right where you can park (parking area is certainly marked coming down the hill, but not sure about going up). You then walk about 10 yards up the hill (slight incline at that point). The restaurant is clearly marked on your left, and has several adequate salas in the grounds of a large house.

If I actually had my thinking head on in the first place, I'd have recommended this above Korat Kitchen (cheaper as well). Only problem is that I'm not sure if they do fish and chips.

Actually called Wan Restaurant, although that is not obvious from the outside (I could only see Thai writing) - 5 of us have just enjoyed an early lunch there - 590 Baht. We've brought a lot of food away with us as it was far too much for 5 people to eat .

The sign indicating parking area is now laying on the grass. However, the parking area is pretty obvious.

BB: Are the F & C at Korat Kitchen battered fish and real chips ? If so I will call in on my way past for a takeaway later.

They were when we tried them, but PBbeacher has indicated that things may have changed. I remember buksida started a thread on it one time, and raved about their fish & chips.

We went to Cajutan, soi 88/1, and it was an excellent choice.

It has only been reopened for a week and they haven't quite finished yet, but it looks good.

Four of us had 4 different and very tasty starters: some melt in the mouth garlicky scallops, bacon-wrapped asparagus, bruschetta and pickled herring/aquavit. All great.

4 different main courses: fish & chips, 'Flying Jacob' (a creamy casserole with chicken, bacon, banana and cashew nuts), wienerschnitzel and something with a chicken breast.

The fish was something that sounded like 'ronro' (with the 'r's rolled) - I asked because it was a flat fish and very tasty. Ordered from Bangkok apparently. Cooked in breadcrumbs. The chips were standard frozen crinkle cut.

Very tasty all round. All dishes for both courses arrived together, which makes a nice change.

If you go, don't expect fast food. I have no problem with a wait, because at least you know it's not going straight from freezer to microwave.

Prices not cheap, but far from ridiculous. I'd put it in the same general ballpark as the Dutchman. Starters around 200-300, main courses mostly 300-500 with one or two more expensive. Didn't notice the drink prices, and after a couple of large aquavits and several Changs, I didn't much care, to be honest!

Nobody else there, but we were there to have a laugh and a few drinks, and fill our bellies. Mission accomplished!

I told the Swedish owner we were there because of the chat here on the forum, and I hope he'll think about advertising here.

I would certainly have had problems writing after a couple....?? of large aquavits and, by now, would probably, would be sleeping and making a noise similar to mating warthogs.

I confess I was feeling a tad groggy when we got home, but a coffee with a large shot of something called B52 Premium Coffee Liqueur in it seemed to perk me up...

I used to love that place DM.... very happy to hear it is once again doing business. That Flying Jacob was one of the best western dishes I remember ever eating here.
