Ladies and gents of Hua Hin,
my new condo will be ready at the end of the year and I need to pull my finger out my rear end regarding furniture and appliances.
My girlfriend and I would like to purchase an American style fridge similar to below. Do any expats own something like this? Any tips or recommendations?
My budget should be modest enough to cater for a 'quality' model and I accept I will pay more in Thailand for an imported brand.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen similar in Home Pro and I'm sure in Pure Electric and no doubt in other outlets. I think you will need to pay 50-60,000 baht for say an LG or equivalent make.
Yes and actual top-end imported fridges are shockingly expensive, 100-150,000 bt which seems a bit silly when you can buy a perfectly serviceable fridge for less than 20,000. Obviously it depends on your priorities in life but for me fridges are not anywhere near the top of the list! (Although I do want one of those glass fronted ones for the beer but they're not expensive.)
Works fine but if you want to save money buy a normal double door fridge freezer without the extra's for 30K, or whatever they are, you'll get more space and can use the extra money for a small freezer, buy ice and keep it in there.
I've had fridge/freezers like that in various guises for over thirty years and I still like to hear the ice cubes plonking out of the machine, but it's an expensive treat really and it doesn't make or hold enough ice for a proper session.

I'm not an expert on these, but in the UK they were plumbed into the water supply to constantly make ice. As the water here from the mains in most cases isn't drinkable, your ice would not be that good for you. Just something to check before you buy

regarding the potable water filters, I have been thinking about this and will probably install the three(?) filter banks so I can drink the tap water. Is this common and does anyone disagree that drinking water even through the filters is mai ok?
Presently I probably spend way too much on bottled water from 7-11.

There is a filter built into our dispenser unit but it is fed by water that comes through a proper external filter device because the old one didn't have a built in filter, as such, it's the only treated water in the house and we've not had any trouble with it.
I clean my teeth in normal unfiltered, unboiled tap water and shower in it too and so far haven't noticed any ill effects.

We use a system with 3 filter banks for drinking water. Although it works well and there have been no issues from drinking the water it somehow is not the same as purchased bottled drinking water. Hard to explain but the water tastes no different but feels more silky when drinking. My family have reverted to bottled drinking water but happily use the filtered water for hot drinks, ice, and food prep such as cleaning salads etc. maybe it's the filter system that we bought and others are better. Not sure??

I have a 2 door GE with a built in ice maker. Similar set up to that posted by Frank Hovis with a filter, except that the 3 cartridge filter also has a UV tube on it. It also has a built in filter in the fridge itself.
From start up it only takes 2 days to completely fill the ice storage dispenser, which is about equal to 4 bags of 7-11 size cubes. It also has a "crusher" option along with ice water. No idea how much it cost as it was in the house when I bought the house. Never had a problem with bad water or ice, but it may depend on where you are connected to the town supply, and I also have a big filter outside the house.
