Re Macro
Re Macro
Just a couple of questions please, we are in Hua Hin for couple of months and would like to stock up at Macro. Do I need a card or do I just go in and start shopping? Would hate to get to till and find I need a card. Secondly do they take UK credit cards or would I be better with cash?
Thanks

Re: Re Macro
They don't take credit cards or debit cards except their own Makro Credit Card (provided by Citibank).
If you don't have a Makro store card (not the Makro credit card) I think they can give you a temporary one at the customer desk. Search the forum for Makro, I'm quite sure it has been mentioned that you can shop without a card.

Re: Re Macro
The Macro in Hua Hin requires a card but the one in Pranburi is straight retail.
Re: Re Macro
I shop in Makro in Hua Hin and get a temporary number at the desk as I go in. Never had a card and never had any problems.
Re: Re Macro
I think they isue you a temporary card at the desk as you go in. You 'full' card will be waiting when you go in one week later.

Re: Re Macro
just go to the desk as you go in on the right and they will issue you a temporary card to start with, do not forget to take an id, the following time you shop they will give you your full card
also they do not take credit cards

Re: Re Macro
And, don't forget to bring your own plastic bags 'cause Makro just rings up the items and puts them right back into a shopping cart without bagging them. That's OK if you just buy big bulky items, but if you buy lots of small individual items, you're loading them into your car individually.
Re: Re Macro
I simply asked for a temporary card on my first visit and filled in an application form for the full card, which I collected a week later.
They ask if you want the card your own name or a business name. I don't have a business name so I had two cards made, one for myself and one for my husband.
There are 4 cash machines in the main entrance so it's easy to take out cash before you shop.
I take a freezer bag, and a few carrier bags which I leave in the boot and just fill the bags when I load the car boot.

I go to Makro in Hua-Hin at least once a week, and I can assure you, you do not need a card, and neither do you need to ask for a temporary card when you go in. Simply walk; do your shopping, and then proceed to checkout. The cashiers havev a special code which they just enter before adding up your bill.
You do need to pay with cash however, and as others have pointed out, they don't provide carrier bags although you can buy large reusable ones at the checkout.
All in all, it's a far better experience than shopping at Tesco in MV. Always plenty of parking and never any long queues to stand in either. In and out in no time at all - great. As an added bonus, you will save a decent amount of money compared to Tesco as well, especially if you are "stocking up".

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Maybe a good idea to take a cooler along as well in the car depending upon how far you live and the amount of frozen/meat/seafood you're going to buy. We need to drive 40KM after shopping and a cooler is a must. It's also an easy way to pack up your perishables. Pete
