english4u wrote:Suspicious? Be up front? Have you read my posts? I advised that I will arrive in Thailand the first week of November, the beginning of the high season. Where do you show me? Are you getting tea money from the language school you recommended? You are the one sounding suspicious. How can I find you when I arrive? I would love to meet you. I am in a country that borders Thailand. I could be in HH tomorrow night. Is that suspicious? I realize that all of you Brits have strong Anti-American feelings, but really, isn't this petty?
The language school I recommended is a Forum Sponsor. As a moderator, I will push sponsors wherever I can as it is they who pay for this site that many of us benefit from. That aside, I pay the going rate for my family to attend, and the results to date could not be better. I also have many friends/aquaintences who use the services of the language school - I've never heard a bad word said against them yet.

We get a lot of spam traffic/timewasters on this forum. When you were offering a personal service, yet were not posting locally, I had a duty to enquire. I would normally have made the enquiry via PM, but you have not qualified to receive PMs yet.

Stop trolling English4u. He sounds legit and if you meet up at the market you can probably tell if he speaks proper English. If he is offering a free class to a group of people I think that is nice. A free flight lesson and you might want to see the license and check the maintenance record on the plane, but a free English lesson sounds pretty harmless in a group setting. I also don't see why you would care where he is based. Yes, you can spoof the IP address but he isn't offering lessons online so his home base isn't important.

raytashi,

There was certainly no trolling on my part, which I have explained:

When the respondent lives a 1 hour flight away, or a 12 hour road journey away, the offer of a free English lesson in Hua Hin had to sound suspicious. There was no malice meant in the post, but with so many time wasters/trolls attacking this forum daily, I had every right to question the poster's intention, which was adequately explained.

I didn't spend a lot of time in Thailand so I don't know what can or can't be easily obtained. Programs like Rosetta Stone or similar I've found to be very good for learning basic language skills but obviously require a computer. I saw loads of people with smart phones so I assume that a cheap computer isn't out of reach. Classes are good, but I never took German in school and I probably know more German from the $20 software than I learned in a French class in college that was a year long. If you have a computer, study the words and grammar at home on the computer and then take classes to learn better conversation, "slang" terms, and practice speaking. Best regards to everyone here. I enjoyed my time in Thailand, meeting people, and seeing the sights.

Just to be clear, Rosetta Stone isn't $20 but the German program I bought that was similar and not as extensive was. There are smart phone apps for learning as well, just make sure they are legit and not farming all your contacts and information.

I have hope that the moderator publish my mail. /2584448@mail.ru/ And who can really give a lesson for my family to write. And avoid trolling.
Do I really need a tutor. A native speaker.
But instead of real proposals I have a lot of pages of useless text.

All people propagating themselves as 'teachers' should also submit their credentials and where they currently teach, so as to placate any inherent worries within those considering using the service forwarded with only the vague assurances from someone on a forum (with 10 posts) that they are capable of doing the aforementioned task to a adequate level. There are many frauds and thieves out there preying on the honest and trusting folk of society.
