Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
There was an article about the boot sale in AWOL and it said something along the lines of "foreigners are not able to sell due to work permit regulations".Siani wrote: Can foreigners sell at one without problem? If so it maybe a "loophole" in the Thai laws about foreign workers

If you hate these boot sales so much, then why do you go? Why don't you just let the wife go and you go do something you enjoy?Big Boy wrote:I know - I hated them in the UK (where Mrs BB was addicted), and I'm sure I'll hate them as much here. I just wish somebady hadn't told Mrs BB about the Hua Hin Car Boot Sale. Don't get me wrong, I wish them every success, but not with me trapsing around.
They have one in Bang Saphan as well http://www.bangsaphanguide.com/forum/vi ... ?f=3&t=711 .
Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale

Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
Boot sales are usually an outlet for let's say, mildly warm to hot items.
At least true in other countries. We have a yearly event at my daughters school as a fundraiser and I always scratch my head at some items for sale, like power tools etc. Last year there were a variety of fishing lures all machine sealed in plastic. Pete

Careful or you'll end up like me Big Boy. I didn't like my wife driving my car nearly every day either (she rarely stays home), so after a little over a year of being her chauffeur to places I hated, I broke down and bought a second car for her.Big Boy wrote:I hate the thought of Mrs BB driving my car even moreArlo wrote:If you hate these boot sales so much, then why do you go? Expensive, yes, but my life is much more relaxed and she feels much more freedom to do what she wants without worrying about it boring the hell out of me.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
I don't think I've considered my car to be a 'me drive only' thing. Even my top of the series Beemer wad used by my daughter of 19 at the time. Anyway
I guess a Car boot sale had to come but who buys Thai or farang?

All I know Richard is that Thai women who live in the UK are car boot crazy. My cousins X girlfriend went crazy on them, buying up heaps clothes for her daughter. I thought at the time she was crackers as clothes are not expensive in Thailand. She bought Barbie dolls as well. The other Thai woman I know here, who is married to UK resident, spends 6 months in the UK and is always going to them, buying heaps of crappy china to send out to Thailandrichard wrote:I don't think I've considered my car to be a 'me drive only' thing. Personally all I ever go there for are plants for the garden.
Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
No disrespect meant for you ladies (nor Richard), but all my life I've rarely let anyone (especially wives and girlfriends) drive my cars unless I was along. I like to try to keep my car looking new, even after years of use (ingrained by my Dad) and the ladies I've known are not careful about parking, and will park in the nearest slot to where they are going no matter how tight it is. I park at the empty end of the lot or an end spot in a row or next to a pole so I can leave the maximum amount of space to the next car and reduce/eliminate those unsightly door dings that women, in my experience, don't seem to worry about.I don't think I've considered my car to be a 'me drive only' thing. Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
Some strange responses regarding car boot sales. My missus, while in the UK, ended up making a few thousand pounds per month simply by buying stuff at car boot sales and then selling that stuff on eBay. Admittedly, she did also start buying boxes of rubbish from an auction house one a week, and again, she made good money from it. Stuff which I wouldn't have in my home if you paid me often fetched a good price online. Obviously the figures won't be the same here in Thailand, but if a smart Farang and his Thai partner snoop about the country, they're very likely to come across many things that can be sold at a boot sale, and particularly in an area such as Hua-Hin where you have many expats and tourists.
Also, Thais, like many people, tend to like novelty ideas, so car boot sales could also prove to be popular when it comes to selling little arts and crafts. just take a look at the "old style" market type place you pass when heading north. They sell nothing of interest, and yet the place does a rip roaring trade.
And, if you really want to make it a national sensation, just give it a name like "Hua-Hin Car Boot Festival".

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: Hua Hin Car Boot Sale
Be careful though of things like homemade blankets, bead spreads, tablecloths etc., that may have been previously displayed on racks alongside a highway or busy road. We made the mistake of buying a few years ago and when home found that the diesel smell in the fabric caused by passing vehicles was impossible to get rid of no matter how many washings. We now have some fancy paint tarps and motorbike covers laying around here.
