Millions of Indians die each year from issues relating to the basics...... Such as water.... Sanitation and hygiene......
This does not include those that die from treatable medical conditions......
And yet India has just sent a probe to Mars....... At a cost of 4.5 Bn Rupees......

Anybody else find this astonishing.....?
Is this madness ?
Re: Is this madness ?
In a nutshell.......yes. Indians, on the whole, are simply and completely nuts.
However, I have a fairly dim view of this country along with another not too far away from Thailand.
Having visited and lived there for six months a long while back I can say that social prejudice and social status rules are exercised to the extreme and in a heartless and vicious way.
There are simply so many of them everywhere that life and so much else is so worthless that it boggles the mind. It is no place to be (or bring) a woman either.
It is a stunningly beautiful country in many places, especially up north, but I have little good to say about the culture, the way it is practiced and the society's treatment of it's members by each other. There is also no such thing as a moments peace as wherever you go there are people (men with very dodgy mustaches mainly) teeming everywhere and just 'being around' or loitering.
As an afterthought on their space journey jollies attempt......you'd have thought that a country like that had enough problems on the ground to sort out as opposed to trying to send a calling card to the next door planet to gain 'face' or a kind of deluded lofty prestige that 98% of their population either don't care about or simply don't understand.

Spot on Spitfire et al
How any country that has one of the highest infant mortality rates, beggars on the streets of it's main cities and some of the poorest living conditions on the planet, can justify this, I do not know

Re: Is this madness ?
India said recently that the aid the UK stupidly provides 'is peanuts' and as a consequence, its being wound down and stops in 2015.
