Having recently acquired a liking for Granola cereal I have been put off by the sheer expense of buying the boxed cereals available in Villa market.
Together with the help of my good friend Google I found this recipe and made some yesterday. It's really easy to make and at a fraction of the shop prices. The recipe calls for Maple syrup which is very expensive in VM so I looked at other recipes and decided to use honey instead, I guess Golden Syrup would work as well. The recipe is very flexible for your own tastes. I used rolled oats, cashew nuts, chopped almonds and added a variety of dried fruit after baking.
Looks worth a try because I normally mix regular muesli with granola to give it some extra crunch. I brought 3 bags with me from the UK on my last visit and have just opened the last bag so when this runs out, I will try your suggestion

Forgot to mention that in my recipe I added a cup of sunflower seeds, again any variation of seeds will do.
Yes I'm sure that you can add all sorts of ingredients to give a slight variation, but it's the base recipe that provides the platform to experiment with and I'd never given it a thought to make my own so looking forward to experimenting. Anyway, back to making cakes this morning !!
Well I made my first batch yesterday and had it for breakfast this morning. Overall verdict is definitely better than the shop bought version I had before (from Sainsbury in the UK) but I'm sure there is room for improvement. I cut down maybe a bit too much on the oil, which resulted in the oats not forming into clumps. I used a mixture of olive oil and sunflower oil, honey, some cinnamon powder, chopped almonds, diced dried mango and pineapple, raisins, dried banana flakes and dried coconut flakes and of course rolled oats as the main ingredient.
Well you lot..I get by on rolled oats, raisins, chopped apple, banana & 'less sugar' soya milk..I was doin' fine till reading this..thank you for my possible breaky-upgrade..
