Sorry Jockey, I can't see any way that a team from North of the Border can compete in anything other than a friendly match against a top Premiership side. This is especially true with Man Utd being so hot at the moment.

In reality, Celtic would probabaly struggle in the Premiership, and undoubtedly end up in the Championship - probably the true reason they never tried the big move to the English league.

Its not all doom and gloom, at the end of the day its just 11 men against 10 men & Christiano (the cheat) Ronaldo. Who knows, they may get a lucky break.

OK - We'll not include friendlies which Celtic usually do well against EPL opposition, so, the last two teams from the EPL Celtic have met recently in European competition was Blackburn and Liverpool. Celtic were undefeated in all 4 games, home and away and knocked both teams out.

Aha!!!

English baiting, well, thats if you exclude all the foriegners that play for both teams! I think it will be an interesting game? not so sure Utd are so hot at the moment and then theres the mutual love (not) between the two managers!!

I look forward to it and I'm a neutral! It will be good for the game north of the border if Celtic do well - pity about Hearts though!

You're holding back there Jockey. Now I'm not a Celtic fan, far from it, but I was behind them in that Uefa Cup campaign. Written off by the English media after the first leg against Blackburn, not got a hope according to all and sundry down south after the first leg against Liverpool....but the look of unsmiling sheer defiance on the faces of Larsson and Sutton when they were getting interviewed after the victory at Anfield was a sight to behold. The BBC reporter didn't know if it was New Year or New York....magic.

But....the English media handed them the will to win on a plate that time. And there ain't no Larsson, Sutton, Petrov and more importantly O'Neill this time round. Love to see them get a decent result....but cannae see it mate. Go on ra Hibs!

I was trying to give an honest opinion. Lets face it, not one of the Celtic team would be good enough to play in the Man Utd team where as Celtic would probably slot any one of the Man Utd team straight in to their side. If the Celtic players were any good, they wouldn't be playing in the wilderness of Glasgow - they'd be earning real money in the Premiership.

As I said previously though, this is their chance for 180 minutes of fame, and the Celtic underdogs will certainly want to impress for the chance of bettering themselves. It will be just another match against 2nd rate opposition for Man Utd - probably won't even get the adrenalin flowing.

Ouch! Have to disagree here. Larsson stayed at Celtic longer than he needed to because he was so attached to it when he could have been earning big money elsewhere. Also, don't think too many Scots would appreciate you calling Glasgow "wilderness"....

Larsson was exceptional - we are talking about today's team. Who in the current team could step in to a highly paid Premiership job? We all go to work for the money (or at least most of us do), why continue your career in a country where football is 2nd class?

They may not like the term wilderness, but on the UK's footballing map, Glasgow is truly a footballing wilderness. Glasgow is big in Scottish football, nowhere else.

Yes they will have the incentive to do well against a hot shot Premiership side, but you have to remember, for Man Utd playing Celtic in this competition is a bit like playing Plymouth Argyle in the 3rd round of the FA Cup - they won't have any incentives, and certainly won't receive any accolades for beating them 6 - 0.

Agree with most of what you say BB - as much as I hate to say I can't see anything better than a rousing performance and a narrow defeat for Celtic. Saying that they held Barcelona, Ronaldinho et al, on the way to the Uefa Cup Final three years ago, so why not.

Don't get what you're on about above though. Most of Scottish football outside the old firm would LOVE to see Rangers and Celtic leave for the Premiership - they've been constantly undermining every other team in the league for years. Good riddance I say.

From their point of view there's nothing they would like more than to join the big boys down south. For you to say they're stalling a move because they don't reckon they're good enough is laughable. They haven't moved because of UEFA bureaucracy and lack of support from the chairmen of existing premiership clubs, who quite rightly see them as a potential threat.

If they were to move now I doubt they'd finish much above the drop zone but I tell you what, give them five years or so by the time the TV money has filtered through and they're competing with the big boys, and see where they are. Their away support would match or better even the Toon Army and we're talking EVERY away game, regardless of travelling time. Their global brand and marketing is up there with Man U and Liverpool (way in excess of Chelsea and Arsenal) and would only be strengthened by the mass exposure they'd receive from playing in the premiership. The potential revenue streams are endless if they make the move. The chairmen are fully aware of this and realise the threat.

It ain't gonna happen anytime soon but bring it on, the sooner the better. Hope it's a good game tonight.

You've got it in a nutshell there, Heebio

Think we should reconsider Berwick Rangers - playing in a foreign league - undoughtedly for pure financial gain & tv exposure -

Yes, still smarting from that defeat back in the 60's !!!!

Well done Jockey, you've sussed the Premiership out. I've just been watching Sky Sports News, and they've just shown Sir Alex Ferguson leaving hospital after being administered a tranquiliser before this evening's game.

Seriously, I hope its a good game, and I don't care who wins. I'll wait until 2 year's time when Tevez and Mascherano help the 'true greens' in to the competition.

OK BaaBaa, you've caught me - maybe I did imagine the bit about Sir Alex.

By the way, I hope you got a price - those bookies aren't daft. They will be aware of the Paul Stapleton plan. Just out of interest, what price did you get?
