Extending my stay in LOS

Post by BOZ »

Folks, I am heading over for the holidays and would like to stay beyond the 30 days I will be stamped into the Kingdom... I thought I had read about an extension I could get from immigration to extend my stay??? Other option would be going out of the country and returning through a boarder crossing, I am US passport holder, ideas on my options would be greatly appreciated!!! Would I need a visa to cross into Burma??? Thanks!!

The obvious option, depending how long you want to stay, would be to get a tourist visa from your nearest Thai Embassy/Consulate before you come. That would give you 60 days on entry. That can be extended by a further 30 days locally if necessary.

If not, you can extend your 30 days locally by 15 days (I think), or take a trip across any border you like and get another 30 days when you come back.

If you pop over to Burma from Ranong, you pay for a visa when you get there - $10 I believe.
This is the way

Many golfing friends do the 60 +30 deal, works well if there is a Thai consulate easily available,

Was able to get a tourist visa today in Boston Thai Consulate, funny thing is there isn't a single Thai working there... A nice British women did my visa in 10mins and we were back out the door... She also said I can get my Spousal visa there when I am ready to do so... Nice service!! $40USD

There's no such thing as a spousal visa.
However, you can extend a visa annually on the basis of being married to a Thai as long as you meet the financial requirements. The visa class you'll need will be "O", rather than tourist.
If you need more info on this, just ask.
Your tourist visa will cover you as per your original post but unfortunately consulates, anywhere in the world, are prone to misunderstanding requirements to stay here long term.

So, you'll have to upgrade from tourist to Non Imm O status. Do that within the last 30 days of your entry/permitted to stay stamp.
You'll need to prove all the age/marriage/financial requirements that exist for annual extensions. You'll then get a single entry non Imm O visa, good for 90 days, and then prove everything again and get an annual extension.
It's a two stage process for you, that's all.
