5yr Driving licence renewal

Post by Bruce »

My current 5yr Thai driving license for a car comes up for the dreaded renewal soon ...can anyone advise of what the procedure is in Hua Hin -can one bribe an official -if so what's the going rate or do I have to sit the lengthy eye/reaction tests all over again? Any suggestions greatly received!

If you search, you will find that this question has been covered a number of times, but no need to bribe anybody as it's a relatively straightforward process, just a case of gathering all the required documents together.

Big Boy that wasn't helpful in the slightest .....
Dannie Boy perhaps you would elaborate a tad as In Pattaya you just bribed the official 800bt plus proper docs -In Samui you had to sit the rection test plus submit correct docs -what exactly occurs here please ie do I have to sit the test again basically?

Bruce, it wasn't intended to help you. The intention was to make you re-think your strategy. What part of the process is lengthy? I assume you must have a licence already - the process is a doddle.

Why do you need to bribe somebody? It would probably take you longer than obtaining a legitimate licence.

Or do you have so much money that you like to give it away?

Might be worth a bribe not to sit though the safety video.

When I got my 5 year licence, all I had to do was provide all of the paperwork - original passport and copy, proof of residence (blue/yellow book or letter from police/immigration) medical certificate that you can get from one of the clinics and your existing driving licence. I didn't have to do any tests at all (this was at the Cha Am driving licence centre but believe it's the same at Panburi). With the paperwork, it took no more than 15 minutes to process and I walked out with my 5 year licence. Can't see why you would need to bribe anybody?

That's not required for the 5 year renewal.

I don't understand why so many people seem to consider it necessary to pay a bribe or even consider doing so.

In my time in LOS I have had no problem getting driving licenses, retirement visa etc, new UK passport etc. If one just follows the rules, fills in the correct forms life is very simple here.

Was when I did it 3 years ago, but hope you're right. Seems to change every time anyway. So may be different again in another 2 years.
Cheers.

Seconded.
I've never understood why people can't understand how easy life is in Thailand if you just care to follow the laws and rules here.
Yes, quite a lot of people complains about lots of things but is it really that hard to follow the laws in this country?
I think not and I'm still in love with this country.
You just have to adapt and get rid of your own belief that the laws and fines in your own country are any better there than here.

It was a couple of years ago when I did my second 5 year renewal.
