Anyway, I hope that we can catch up sometime soon

Hi Hilux

The bike is truly great, but with holiday schedules etc, not so much time to ride. Have done nearly 500kms now. That 6k rpm limit during 'run in' i a real bummer!

Will try to post a pikkie in a day or 2 (too knackered and hung over to try now!)

Happy New Year to you All

Riding South on Saturday if anyone else interested, 3 or 4 bikes 'signed up' already. Photo op at Brassiere Beach (Dolphin Bay), then on to a coffee stop just past there that Edwin recommends. We can decide how far South to go at the breakfast meeting..... 8:30 at El Murphy's.

Got my new Rifle taller & wider vented windscreen mounted, could have used the protection last Saturday, as I froze my tits off riding the North coast road behind Cha Am to Pretchaburi!!

Hi Guys... well it was too bad but I could not make it for the ride today. Last night I went out to gas up the Fazer and do a quick checkout of the newly installed Rifle windshield, and when I dropped it off the center stand, found a flat rear tire! Should have checked it earlier in the day in case it was a minor nail or such. Turns out it was a more serious split in the center of the contact patch area which was leaking rather a lot of air. I was at Cockpit Bridgestone shop on Petchkasem Rd at 8 am, and they were there and ready to accept customers (surprise surprise) when they pulled the tire off it was pretty obvious that no attempt to fix it should be attempted. There was visible separation longitudally about 3 - 4 cm long, the air leaking out about the middle of the length. This shows why you should always pull the tire off the rim before attempting any repair (such as a plug...) I think this damage could have resulted in catastrophic deflation and resulting interesting developments depending exactly what attitude and speed a guy was travelling when it let go!! I just put it all back in the car, and met the days' 3 other riders at El Murph's for breakfast.

Looks like they had a decent riding day, while I washed 2 cars  , and checked the internet for the Pirelli dealer in BKK. A very useful post on 'another info website' directed me to the Pirelli importer and a quick call to a Thai lady there (spoke good English) confirmed that they were out of stock for the exact Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP that I had on the Fazer. I asked if there was another model of Supercorsa that would be compatible with the front SP, and was directed to the Pirelli website and to look at the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa BSB. This tire is very similar, and suited to fast street riding and the odd track day thrown in while having a slightly more durable compound than the more track oriented SP model. So I will transfer the 7930 baht which includes shipping to Hua Hin tomorrow morning, probably have the tire Monday afternoon. The company is at http://www.competizioni-moto.com

Also, I have used Cockpit Bridgestone shop (just past Soi 56 going North on Petchkasem sort of across from La Baguette) 3 or 4 times for tire changes on the 929, and now on the Fazer, and have found them to have top notch equipment, careful workmen and fair prices. They do not have balancing equipment for motorcycle tires, but there are a few in BKK.

Pirelli Supercorsa replacement

Post by Gin tonic - no lime »

Well the new skin arrived today. I took some photos of the old one showing outside (no real damage apparent), inside the carcass, about center tread showing approx. 3 cm long longitudinal split . The Cockpit Bridgestone service shop immediately said they would not attempt repair of this damage, and even if they had wanted to go ahead and do anything, I would not have let them. I think that potential for a blow out at speed would be high no mater what they did to repair the split.

One other photo of the manufacture date (in an oval raised lettering) in this case the 4 digit code is "1613" indicating the tire was manufactured during the 13th week of 2013. With proper storage 'new' tires can be used up to 3 years after the manufacture date, many new motorcycle tires are wrapped (as mine was when it got here) to partially alleviate some of the things which quickly degrade the tire compound like sun and ozone, heat is another factor that is not as easily addressed, and could be a problem here!! Note I say tire 'compound' above, as it is my understanding that many modern motorcycle tires do not contain ANY actual rubber!

A shot of the new one all purrdy with it's yellow sidewall highlights.

Cheers GTNL

Are there any big bike rental places in HH? A friend needs to do a Ranong run so we may make a ride out of it.

I think the CBR250 is the biggest bike you can rent in H.H.

Well I have seen some cruiser type bikes down towards the beach bazar sort of opposite Hagi Japanese Restaurant (Sofitel) and before the entrance to the karaoke bar area. Never checked them out for condition or anything, and not even sure if they are still there...

I tried a CBR 250 and found it quite nice, although I am used to bigger bikes and own a 750 at the moment.
I supposed it would not be ridiculous compared to my first "big bike", about 50 years ago, a 350 JAWA CZ (followed by a Triumph T120).
I still could to to Ranong on a CBR 250, cruising at 100-120 (top speed is about 140, I think).
Bikes have improved a lot in the last 50 years... but we haven't not, alas !
