Bookazine closing down sale last day

Post by PBbeacher »

Anyone looking for some bargain new books should quickly head over to Bookazine/Mega Books on Naresdamri Road opposite Centara.
She is closing at 6.30PM TODAY, permanently, and all books are ridiculously cheap!

I'm sorry to hear that Bookazine is closing in HH. They used to be an excellent source of farang reading material, with very helpful staff.
Unfortunately it's a sign of the times. Proper bookshops are becoming a thing of the past everywhere, not just in HH, and Asia Books always seemed to be the bigger player in the LOS.

The fact that you can go into Bookazine, ask for a book - get a "mai mee", then order it online from Asia Books for 25% less that what you would have paid if they'd have had it - and have it delivered to your door 3 days later says it all for me.

That's right Buksi - and that's what's happening now in the UK since the likes of Amazon hit the big time. But before the days of online shopping and Kindles Bookazine did IMO fill a big gap in HH, and the staff even understood ISBN's!
Asia Books though are also publishers, which should help them to coniinue in one form or another. I just wish that my local branch of Waterstones could get to grips with obtaining Asia Books publications - even when I have the ISBN they fail miserably, and it's back to Amazon (who rarely fail to come up with the goods - and if they do fail they keep trying and update you by email.)
Little wonder bookshops are going out of business.

Yes, it's a sign of the times; I read quite a lot when I'm in Thailand and I used to frequent the local book shops but since I bought a Kindle about a year a go, I haven't bought a paper book. When you live between several locations as I do, it's great to be able to carry your book collection around with you.

:agree:
Before my e book I would carry 6-7 books to Thailand. One year I read them all and was worried about the 20+ hour flight home until I visited bookzine. Now no problem!

The second hand bookshop on Petchkasem Road probably also contributed to the demise of Bookazine.
When people are on holiday, second hand book exchange is popular and often free in hotels etc.

I did like the Nancy handler stuff that she sold, wrapping paper and cards etc.
But agree with others - definitely a sign of the times.

If you go south on Petchkasem from the tessabahn, on the west side of the road, the shop is some 150 meters down. It's called the Blue and Yellow Bookshop (or the other way round).
Don't know the soi it's on the corner of but you can't miss it.

It's on the corner of the small alleyway that is the entrance to the Tessabahn parking lot/garage, which you can use (free) while book shopping by the way.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Is this the Blue & Yellow book exchange shop that is being discussed here?
