I've just come back from a local school where they've been celebrating Children's Day. Basically each class stages a dance performance (mainly Girls) for the rest of the school, and of course proud parents. Very well organised, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Age groups performing ranged from 4 to 16.

Re: Children's Day 2014
My kids were dancing this morning at Somtawin in town.
Hua Hin doesn't seem to make such a big thing about 'children's day', when I briefly lived in BKK everywhere the kids went people gave them candy or small plastic toys similar to 'trick or treating' in the US.

I hope you enjoyed it just as much. I went last year and it was really badly organised. I wasn't looking forward to it this year, but when you've got grandchildren.........
Anyway, last year my grand daughters were showered with gifts all over Hua Hin. As an example, walking through the night market there were several places with signs up saying this and that was free to children. And don't forget, Palm Bistro are offering a free meal for children this weekend.

Yes, the fighters and other various aircraft from all military branches were out and overhead doing the annual show at U-Tapao. Not many attended though, at least not like in years past. Many used to come from Bangkok, but circumstances as they are this year probably kept people close to home. Pete
NOTE: Is Thailand unique in the world celebrating a Children's Day? Someone asked me that question and I couldn't answer it. I've never heard of one anywhere else.

I think that you will find that Children's Day is celebrated in many countries. Certainly it is celebrated in Japan with a public holiday on the 5th May as part of their Golden Week.

Re: Children's Day 2014
It certainly isn't celebrated in SA or in the UK.
My eldest daughter was up on stage on Friday and it always amazes me how good the performances are considering the young age of the kids. Another thing which I think is really nice is the fact that the Thais (adults) genuinely enjoy themselves as well......it's almost as if they become kids too for a while.
As for free gifts and things.......my MIL left yesterday with the kids and they returned a little while later with bags full of toys and stuff, all given to them down in the village (Borfai) for free.

Apparently SA does have a Children's Day, it is on the first Saturday of November but not really celebrated in any significant way.Takiap wrote:It certainly isn't celebrated in SA or in the UK.
The countries that have a Children's day can be found at the following link along with the appropriate dates and extent of celebrations.

1-st of June - childrens day in Russia (like in many countries). Actually it is called "the day of childrens' protection", and is traditionally used by politicians to speak nice speaches about how much they've done to children... Various activities are held, plus it states the beginning of long summer holidays from school.
