Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
I consider myself fairly typical of most farangs when it comes to the clothes I wear in Thailand and because it's normally hot or very hot, tend to wear very little when I'm at home - often just shorts and no shirt. Now that it's turned cold I initially started wearing a t-shirt but even that has proved to be insufficient. Of course if I were back home and in the same temperatures, I would be wearing jeans and a jumper, so it's the fact that I am not dressing appropriately is why I have been feeling cold, but in real terms, the weather is just about perfect for me.Bristolian wrote:No bearskin necessary. In the sun the temps are ok but the wind can be a little chilly. For evenings, Have a light sweater or light jacket and you should be fine. By the time you arrive we could be back in the 30s.Ralfredo wrote:I'm arriving to HH next week and starting to get a little scared...What temperatures do you have in the day and in the night? I suppose one good thing about having to wear long sleeves is that you don't get so many mosquito bites...
I think I'm going to have to rethink the "I'll never need more than three sweaters" philosophy I had when moving out here though!

I'm feeling warmer today - actually considering switching on a fan. Does that mean I'm acclimatising, or it is a little warmer? If I'm acclimatising, does mean I will have to re-acclimatise when the warmer weather returns

I think it's a bit warmer

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
^ Yes, I guess you sun worshipers are becoming happier now. Yesterday I started having to use A/C in the afternoon and last night I had to sleep with it on. Sorry to see winter go; it was a nice one this year.
Something I noticed; when the weather was cold/cooler, the wind was coming from the north, which I also think is what made it so hazy blowing smog down from Bangkok. I noticed that since it's warming the wind has reversed and is now coming from the south and/or east, hence the warmer temperatures and probably air pollution clearing a bit soon.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The wind switch from north east to south west always occurs in Jan through till the end of the year hence the break from cold spell back to normal

I'm still finding it pretty nippy in the mornings until about 11ish.

HH Farang, I am getting a good chuckle from your new saying.
I think that way when I see some of the drivers every day in
Calgary. Some are bad drivers, and others are the drivers with a cell phone to their ear,
or are texting as they head for their next accident.

,.................Something I noticed; when the weather was cold/cooler, the wind was coming from the north
In December / January the wind is from the north east. It starts off in snow covered northern China from the north west, and is hence very cold, flows into the sea between China and Japan, and then gets deflected southwards over Korea and on towards the equator.
Although happy to share Bangkok smog with you, I think that you will find that the haze is moisture in the air picked up over it`s long flow over the ocean / South China Sea................which I also think is what made it so hazy blowing smog down from Bangkok
The wind has not reversed, it is merely under the influence of changes in local pressure cells that is causing it to veer to the east............I noticed that since it's warming the wind has reversed and is now coming from the south and/or east,
Really? There are only two monsoons that affect Thailand and the prevailing wind. From around November to April Thailand comes under the influence of the North East Monsoon, From April / May until November the monsoon swings around to the South West and remains that way until the next cycle starts. The wind switch from north east to south west always occurs in Jan through till the end of the year hence the break from cold spell back to normal
The actual swing dates of the Monsoons is influenced by El Nino, La Nina and a phenomenon called Indian Ocean Dipole. It also is affected by the movement of the Inter Tropic Convergence Zone, which affects the weather right around the globe and for much of the worlds weather outside of the tropics.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Warming up quite a bit from end of Dec to mid Jan... Getting hot again in the afternoons... In my 6 weeks here, not a drop of rain, and nice cooler temps, makes me want to buy a home and live here permanently... Oh wait that is what I did already... Lovely weather now here!!

Acuweather are forecasting thunder storms Thursday morning! Coming from the UK I never thought I would get excited about the possibility of a drop of rain. 555!
