My passport expires in August 2015. My annual extension of an OA visa (retirement) is due in September this year approximately 3 weeks before my passport expires one year later.
Is this a problem? Do I need to renew my passport 11 months early to make sure my visa will be extended?

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Passport expiration and retirement OA visa
When I was in a similar situation Hua Hin immigration told me that they would only extend my permission to stay for 6 months, which would have been up until when the passport expired.hhfarang wrote:My passport expires in August 2015. The rules changed last year and as Nereus says, extensions will only be given now up to the expiry date of your passport.
In the past, that was also the case but Imm would give you the remainder of the year when you went back with your new passport for the extension to be transferred - not any more.
As an aside, this was the case with me last August when I renewed my extension - passport expires in May this year. Extension given till then but I got an extra stamp saying that things would be extended on presentation until September (normal renewal date) of my new passport. The goalposts changed a couple of weeks after that. I wonder whether they'll honour that??
Get a new passport, hhf.

Re: Passport expiration and retirement OA visa
My visa based on retirement expired at the end of July last and my passport expired in December 2013.
So my visa extension in my old passport was valid until the expiry date with another entry indicating that it would otherwise be valid until the end of July 2014.
When I got my new passport, I went back to Immigration and the visa was transferred to it for 500 baht without any difficulty.
What they did check thoroughly was that the new passport was actually issued before the expiry date of the old passport. If this had not been the case, the visa would have automatically been invalid.
I think the best thing is to go and have a quick chat with them. I've always found them extremely helpful.
