O Visa, my wife a Tourist Visa, Extend based on retirement?

Post by SunandFun »

I have an "O" Visa as I have been staying more than 30 days at a time. Previously my wife has been traveling on a 30 day tourist visa stamp on arrival as she stayed less than 30 days. (Both US Passports)

I now plan to extend my "O" visa annually on the basis of retirement when I return in March.

My question is, how can I set her up with the same end result?
What Visa do I have to get her, to start with or can I "pay a fee" at Immigration to handle that side of it?

Second question is, can I bring a letter from the US Embassy in India verifying my income or does it have to be Thailand US Embassy?
Since I am doing the extension in Hua Hin, do I still need a police report and if so from which country?

Thanks for the he last help with hurdle.

You should get your wife an O visa as well as that is what is necessary to extend off.
I reckon you'll need the letter from the Embassy in BKK.
No need for a police or medical report for extensions.
I believe the laws changed regarding a foreign spouse's dependent extension last December and now the spouse must qualify with her/his own income/savings. Previously, the spouse could piggyback on the main extension - no need for two incomes/savings.
My advice would be to get your wife the O visa which she'll need in any instance and go and talk to Imm when you arrive.
I don't recall any reports of how HH in particular are dealing with this at the moment, so my information is a little vague.

I can not find it now, but at the time there was a media report concerning this and a senior immrigration officer vitualy said: " where the ...k did you hear that B.S.?" He explained what the confusion was, and no, it is not a requirement.

Thanks, Nereus.
Then to OP. Your wife should be able to "piggyback" on your extension once you've got it. You'll need to prove that your marriage is genuine and continuing. She applies as your dependent.

I read recently that the clarification was that the applicant must have sufficient funds in an account that is in their name only. If a joint account is used, then two applications are required and there must be sufficient funds to cover the monetary requirements for both applicants i.e. double bubble!

I haven't seen it personally, but friends have told me there was notice at immigration advising 800,000 Baht each. Is it still there?
