Green privacy and sunscreen fabric

Post by hhfarang »

That green sunscreen and privacy (plastic?) fabric I see used here a lot for temporary privacy or sunscreens over parking areas... does anyone know what widths and lengths it comes in and the best place to buy it?

I believe it is about three meters wide and 50 meters long if you buy the roll.
Check at Landscaping Places or Garden Supply shops. Could also find at contractor outlets.
But,sorry, have no specifics on exactly where to get it.
I wouldn't have to manage my anger if people could learn to mange their stupidity!

HHF

The road next to the wet market has several shops that sell it. Not exactly sure how wide the shade cloth is. You can a full roll of it or by the meter. Sorry, I can't remember the price but not expensive.

Just bought a pack from MAKRO, 7.5 x 2m wide less than 200 baht, a 10 x 2m wide was 200+ baht.
I would have bought from the hardware places (they also sell by the meter) but happened to be in MAKRO when I spotted it.

The Shadecloth usually comes in green or black.
It's usually called slaaan in Thai, usually 2metres wide
Although you can buy it in rolls or get it ordered in, it's also possible to buy a couple of metres for about 25 baht a metre at several hardware stores.
One important thing to note- it comes in different degrees of shade - e.g. 50%, 70%, 80% are common.
I prefer double folded 80% for privacy. Check the labels on the roll or order it specially to get what you really want. Hope this helps.

I looked at Makro today and I think the poster above must have meant Watsadu, as there was none at Makro. Anyway, what I need it for is not privacy but to cover (tie with zip ties) to the underside of the steel supports of my carport roof. Birds sit up on the steel and nest up there and the cars are always covered with crap so I thought the cheapest option would be to put a second roof below the steel of this stuff. 2 or 3 rolls as described above (2m wide and 10m long) should do the trick and the whole thing would cost around 1k baht. Saves getting the car washed every 3 days!

HHF, it was definitely MAKRO, maybe not all branches carry the stuff? This was up in Rayong.

As for the birds, yes, that probably would work.

I did get bird spikes from Homepro, 1,800 baht for 5 meters. Works great for pigeons trying to perch on the window ledges. Saw two the other day making a beeline for the perch, then a sudden swerve a meter from the ledge. Put a smile on my face.

I got 60m x 90 cm of a heavy plastic screening today at a local Thai hardware store. Will be installing it underneath the roofing of my carport with zip ties to (hopefully) keep the sparrows from nesting or sitting up there and crapping on the cars every day..... it seems to always be something here.... snakes, soi dogs, rats, birds... I've been constantly in a war with the local wildlife for ten years... :|

I got a quote for an awning, permanent, not retractable. The cost for the materials was 3000b per sq meter, for a plastic material. I would be happy with a fabric, any ideas?

What about those plastic roll out screens, about 4m wide used in many bars etc. have seen a crew patrolling the soi in a pick up selling them ( and probably fitting them). Anyone have an idea of cost as I'd like some more shade for the hot season and protection from rain blowing in?

Friends convinced me to go with something stronger. I bought a heavy black plastic screen type material for 1500 baht for a 90cm by 60 meter roll (actually 2 - 30 meter rolls so I'm all set. Thanks everyone. Got this at that price at a small Thai hardware place a few meters off Soi 88 just before the turn to G market (on the small soi of the fresh market).
