Kawasaki D-Tracker 250 - where to rent?

Post by heilong »

I'd like to try the Kawasaki D-Tracker 250, so looking for a rental bike for a couple of days.
Any pointers? There was one around the end of Soi 94, but they don't have it anymore.

I don't think I have seen any in Hua Hin but you could try the rent-a-bike shop right at the bottom of Soi Bintabaht.
Why not try a CBR250 as I'm pretty sure they're more readily available.
Be careful on the roads :|

I tried the CBR250 already, I prefer the seating position of a supermoto bike.
I test rode the D-Tracker 250 in Kui Buri already, but would like a longer test ride to get a better feel.
As for road bikes, the Kawa Ninja 300 (also tried in Kui Buri) was a real pleasure to ride, really nicer than CBR250. Of course, 1.5 times more expensive.
Thanks, ride safe.

I test-rode the D-Tracker in Kui Buri and thought it was pretty crap. Also test-rode the KLX and thought it was pretty poor also. I ended up buying the Honda CRF250L..... I'd give you a shot but I'm not in Thailand just now.
Does your budget not stretch to a bigger bike? There's a mint 2012 Ninja 650 on the market:

Both KLX and D-Tracker has some limiter built in the ECU, which significantly limits the acceleration at higher speeds, and top speed itself. I've read about it before and witnessed in person when test riding them in Kui Buri. The easiest way to override that limiter (at least as a temporary solution) is to unplug the clutch switch connector and bridge it with a piece of wire. After I did that on Kui Buri bikes (temporary), they became much more fun (for a 250, that is). Definitely not weaker than the CRF250L which I also had a chance to ride in Chiang Mai.
I think it's very strange that the dealer doesn't get rid of these limiters on their test ride bikes, I'm pretty sure if I haven't read about that limiter and how to bypass it, and just walked in and asked to test ride those bikes, I would have, like you, just decide they are crap and look elsewhere.
D-Tracker is interesting since I have a KLX250 already, and I plan to get a 650 eventually (probably ER6n or Versys), but not yet.
