Another thread reminded me of this. How many grains on average are on each rice stalk? I've received answers from Thais of anything between 50 and 500. Silly trivia question but perhaps a secret known only to rice farmers. Pete

My partner has done a bit of rice farming on some land she was given by the family up in Issan but I don't know the answer to your question Pete.
At a rough guess I would say that there are about 20 grains per ear but the number of ears per plant seems to vary a lot and I imagine it's dependent on conditions.
