You don't have to worry about these things in Hua Hin. That's the wife's CRV in the photo. I think she gunned it right after the MC got out of the way. However, you're probably safer next to that thing than next to a pick-up or Fortuner. :P Pete

Some kind of tank/separator for a petrochemical plant. It belongs to PTT.

EDIT: When in place they're in the upright position if my memory serves correctly.

The various parts of crude oil have different evaporation points so they heat it up and separate gasoline at one level, diesel in another etc...

Vatican cocaine-filled condoms parcel seized by German customs officers

German customs officials have intercepted a package addressed to the Vatican containing 14 condoms filled with cocaine.

A government spokesman said a box packed with 340 grammes of the drug, valued at €40,000 (£33,470), was seized in January at the international airport in the eastern city of Leipzig.

The cocaine, posted from an unnamed South American country, was in liquid form. It had been poured into the condoms and placed in the package addressed to the main postal centre at the Vatican.

Authorities handed the parcel to a Vatican police officer with the aim of laying a trap.

But the box was not claimed. German investigators believe the intended recipient, who remains unknown, was tipped off about the interception.

The Vatican office of Interpol is working on the investigation with the Leipzig prosecutor's office, which could not be reached for comment

"Man Dies After Shooting Himself In Testicles

(8 April) A gambler in Prachinburi province died after accidentally discharging his handgun into his testicles, police said.

According to the police, officers received reports of the incident at around 02.00 on 7 April. The police later arrived at a residence in Hua Wah subdistrict to find the dead body of Mr. Kittisak Krusorn, 27, on his front porch, with pool of blood trailing from his bedroom where police found one homemade handgun and one bullet case.

The police also found and confiscated a set of instruments for "Hi-Lo" gambling.

Mr. Kittisak's tesicles were punctured by the bullet, police added.

Mr. Kittisak's relatives told police he was hosting a round of "Hi-Lo" with his friends in a funeral at a local temple. Shortly after Mr. Kittisak returned to his bedroom, his relatives said, there was a loud gunshot bang and Mr. Kittisak later crawled out to front porch, crying for help. However, the man died before any help could arrive.

Police suspect that Mr. Kittisak might have accidentally fired his weapon as he took the handgun out from the holster on the front of his belt."

That huge load is a Cat Cracker or you Americans will call it a Coaker for refining crude oil into many products with steam as the diagram below shows at low temps its Lubs then Bunker fuel that is a really heavy cheap oil that ships normally use then diesel and so on. What the diagram doesn't show is after Petrol you would have AF or Aviation Fuel with a higher octaine value.

Kendo.

Not sure just what aeroplanes you fly kendo, but the fuel used in piston engined aircraft is usually referred to as "avgas". It is just "petrol" with after refining additives to increase the octane rating. It does not come off the cracker per se.

Jet, or turbine engines, use kerosene. Both fuels have stringent processing methods and other additives not found in fuel used in ground based engines.

The wife heard/read on the Thai news that on Tuesday a PTT station in the middle of Rayong city filled their diesel tank with E85. Apparently 100+ cars filled up before it was discovered. I would imagine that those 100+ drove about 2km and then stalled out. That area of Sukhumvit highway and surrounding side roads must have looked like a parking lot!

No indication of what PTT is going to do to rectify things, but I would imagine it will be a swift and complete repair for everyone to enable them to save face and avoid continuing news coverage.

This should be filed in "the strange but true" cabinet. Pete

It may depend on just how much diesel was in the underground tank before they topped it up with E85, if that is in fact what did happen.
Diesel has an SG of around 0.82 / 0.85, where as E85 has an SG of around 0.81, which should mean the E85 stayed on top of the diesel. As the serving pump suction is near the bottom of the underground tank, and it is unlikely to have been empty when the E85 was added, it may not have affected many cars.

Unlikely to have caused engine damage, but for sure a big job to clean and flush the fuel system and change the filters.
