why do you rarely see sailing boats on the sea in Hua Hin?

They company is called seaman-yacht, they appear to build lasers and other boats.
They have a website.

Can't help you there. Maybe the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya (http://varuna.org) might know. If you're desperate enough (like I was) to try building your own boat there is loads of help on the internet (see my earlier post). John Welsford, a Kiwi designer, has some very attractive plans which might appeal to you.

Yes, I've seen the Welsford designs and they would be ideal for what I would like which is something to cruise around in that is stable enough to be able to take along non-sailors and big enough to be able to carry a cooler box of food and drink to be able to stop off for a meal on a beach or whatever.
The only problem with this approach is that I still have to work away and the time required to build a boat could end up spread over too many years to be a realistic project.

I know what you mean. I, too, work away and the 20 footer took 5 years, but smaller simpler boats can be much quicker.

There's another thread on this and it seems there is no sailing in Hua Hin. I've been here 10 years and don't recall ever seeing a sailboat in the waters off Hua Hin.

I've had a look on the net but I can't find a version any larger at the moment. Those shops around town that sell royal portraits sometimes have a large range, perhaps you could show them the picture from here and ask them if they have it.

Don't know if they were ever published but the Thai boat museum in Authaya has a wonderful series of his majesty building a small boat. A worthwhile museum to visit in any case if you have had your fill of temples.

I had some contact with Guy Baguley at Blue Seas Marine (somewhere over near Pattaya) a couple of years back about getting hold and / or importing of Hobies into Thailand. Prices I got at that time were:

Hobie Wave = 195,815 baht
Hobie Getaway (no wings) = 278,676 baht

transporting and storing it were the things which ultimately put me off. If those things could be solved - such as by creation of a marina and boat club somewhere closer then Pak Nam Pran - then I could well be interested in revisiting the idea.
