When we were walking down Soi 94 yesterday, on a stretch where there was no traffic and the road is paved a motorbike crashed for no apparent reason directly beside us. I still can't explain it. I've seen bikes go down going too fast around corners or to avoid something but this guy (Thai) was just riding straight down the street and all of a sudden fell over. He didn't seem to be badly hurt... just some road rash on his legs but I still can't figure out why he went down.

^ Possibly, it was before 10 a.m. but it also was Songkran. Some people from your first photo with the yellow umbrellas in the Songkran thread ran to help him as he went down almost in front of that place... just beyond it actually... maybe someone shot him in the eyes with one of those water rifles. Anyway, my wife made me walk on and not get involved so I couldn't tell if he was drunk or not. He stood up pretty fast, though.

They are often on the juice (Laos Kao) at sunrise and combined with being in a stupor, water flinging and being in a hurry to get from A to B they just fall off

:offtopic: please can we keep this thread on news items about road traffic accidents, not travel planning. Thanks.

OK forget my travel plans. I think that asking when things will return to 'normal' is a reasonable question and is not off-topic.

38 hurt in Saraburi bus accident
Thirty-eight people were hurt when a coach skidded and landed on its side on the shoulder of a road in Kaeng Khoi, Saraburi province, on Tuesday.

The Loei-Nakhon Ratchasima coach of Nakornchai Transport Co Ltd lost balance and turned aside at Km 13 of Ban Na-Kaeng Khoi road in the central province, according to Thai media reports.

It also hit the houses of people along the road and toppled lamp posts, causing a blackout in the area. The driver told the police it was raining when the accident happened and that part of the road was a curve. The injured passengers were sent to Kaeng Khoi Hospital. One of them sustained critical injuries.

Twenty-three passengers were injured when a Bangkok-Trang tour bus overturned in Huay Yod district of Trang province on Sunday morning, police said.

The bus destined for Muang district in Trang province overturned on a bypass road in tambon Lam Phura in Huay Yod district.

There were 39 passengers on board. The 23 injured were admitted to Trang and Huay Yod hospitals.

The bus departed from Bangkok on Saturday afternoon with 49 passengers. But 10 of them alighted at Thung Song district in Nakhon Si Thammarat province before the accident.

Our Nephew's fiance was one of the injured in this accident. She was heading home to Trang to visit her mother. She works as a nurse in one of the Bangkok Hospitals. Our Nephew is in a right state, his lady is still in a coma and has had her left leg amputated just below her hip.

Only a matter of time before all this carnage became personal for someone on here. Thoughts and prayers for them JD. :( Pete

Agreed  Loss of a limb, especially so high, is about as bad as it gets and will take a lot of time to get over. I hope she gets well as quickly as possible - such trauma will take some considerable adjustment.

This has really entered the realm of insanity now. I await yet another spineless government knee jerk program.

People here are always talking about "face" and actually kill and maim because of losing it. Thailand and those who run it have no face left. They're in a face deficit and have been for decades. The US budget deficit pales in comparison. I realize they really don't care what the rest of the world thinks of them, but sooner or later that attitude is going to destroy them. :( :cuss:  Pete

Please keep us up to date on this one JD as the days/weeks go by. The first hurdle is to get her out of the coma, and I hope that happens soon. Pete
