Re: Thai driving license
I think you need some kind of Non-immigrant/child support/retirement visa - basically a longer term visa.

Re: Thai driving license
I have heard that in Pattaya people have been able to get a 1 yr license on a tourist visa but I don't know about Hua Hin. I'd give them (Pranburi) a call and see what they say. If you get a no for an answer you can call Cha-Am too and see what they say. As a resident in Hua Hin you can go either place to get a driver's license
Re: Thai driving license
But the supporting letter from Immigration will be specific to the centre you choose to use, so do your investigative work first. Maybe Immigration won't issue the letter with the wrong visa - I don't know, just thinking as I type.Paul3456 wrote:As a resident in Hua Hin you can go either place to get a driver's license

Re: Thai driving license
Thanks for replies, I have house in hua hin with yellow book does this help.
Re: Thai driving license
I'm sure if you go over recent (last month) driving licence threads, somebody was told they needed Immigration letter as well. I'm fairly sure that I've recently read that, but can't swear to it. TIT - requirements change with the wind

Re: Thai driving license
If you can get a letter of residence (bai lab long) from immigration, you can also get a drivers licence.
I got a one year licence for both bike and car 10 months ago on a 60 days tourist visa.
I brought my wife and the blue book for the house to immigration in huahin to get the letter of residence (get two if you want licence for both bike and car), got a medical form from the local doc and brought it to Cha-Am. 20 minutes later I had the licences in my hand.

Re: Thai driving license
I've found the post I was thinking of - very sorry, my mistake. It was the Blue Book, not the Yellow Book that wasn't good enough.

In addition to my passport and "O" Visa, my expired License, they required a medical certificate and a letter from Immigration verifying where I lived. I had brought my Blue Book and details of my ownership of my condo and she said, no good. Must have letter from Immigration. Luckily, I had a copy of the one I got last year and gave it to her and she accepted without looking at the date.

Re: Thai driving license
Thanks everyone looks like I have a good chance then.

Re: Thai driving license
Took my test on B visa multi-entry so can't answer the op right now.
However for the information of all .The Englishman I sold my truck to this morning is on a 30 day visa tourist. No problem transferring the truck into his name. You will need copies of the yellow or blue house book PLUS a proof of residence which you get from immigration. Need 1 passport picture for that also. Signed copy of ID card of the owner of the property you reside and of your passport/visa/last stamp/ departure card.
I have to buy and transfer a new car this week so I will ask about the licence for tourist visa holders. I would THINK if you do get questioned OP then just telling them you do not live here full time but would like a licence to follow the rules should be enough.
Good luck

Re: Thai driving license
I don't understand why over there you would need a residence letter from immigration if you have a yellow book. The yellow book is proof of your residence. Maybe another invented money maker. Pete

Re: Thai driving license
I agree with you Pete, however for those using the blue book it will be in the wife's name so it doesn't confirm that it's your residence and hence why a letter from immigration is necessary. I appreciate that I have an O-A visa, but the driving licence centre accepted my yellow book without the need for any letter from immigration.prcscct wrote:I don't understand why over there you would need a residence letter from immigration if you have a yellow book. Re: Thai driving license
I can confirm you can get the licenses on a tourist visa.
Got mine 2 weeks ago.
I needed certificate of residence from immigration (1 for bike, 1 for car) letter from the clinic, and photocopys of your passport and visa.
First time i made the mistake of going while i had 2 days left on my visa and they wouldnt let me take the test. I headed to immigration and got a 30 day extension then it was all sorted easily.

What do they require to issue a certificate of residence?SpoonZie wrote:I needed certificate of residence from immigration (1 for bike, 1 for car) letter from the clinic, and photocopys of your passport and visa.
Would my apartment contract be enough?
Re: Thai driving license
I took some friends to immigration, and that was precisely what they used.
